Hi all, I am 6 weeks pregnant and I feel rough (( . I am full-time employed. My first midwife appointment is in 3 weeks but I feel not very good. Shall I tell HR before that appointment so at least they are aware why I am not 100% myself or shall I wait? Than you.

I don't see any reason not to tell them if you feel it would impact you positively! I told my employer at 7 weeks as I'm diabetic and needed to attend more appointments than usual so rather than losing money I told them so they knew it was antenatal which means I'd get paid for that time.

Word of warning though, they are now my previous employer because a few weeks later when my probation was up they started talking about how the company had had a downturn in work coming in and therefore couldn't sign off my probation as they couldn't guarantee my role would still be needed. I'm sure it was because of my pregnancy but I couldn't prove it. It's totally illegal but unfortunately this sort of thing still happens so just make sure it's the right thing for you before you say anything.

Hope you feel better soon xxx

You can tell HR and your line manager whenever you want and I'd advise that you do if you are feeling rough so they can support you. To comply with maternity legislation they must do a risk assessment and give you paid time off to attend medical appointments to do with the pregnancy.
