Seriously... does anyone have any good ideas on how to tackle pregnancy constipation that isn't prunes or prune juice?!??

Raw carrots (lots) usually works for me!

fancytiles · 22/09/2019 22:14

I have found switching to branflakes for breakfast has helped x

Marshmallow1992 · 22/09/2019 22:31

Lactulose worked for me

ftm45 · 22/09/2019 22:33

Laxido was a god send for me whilst pregnant and after. It really softened the stool! Amazing stuff! Would definitely recommend, safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Bol87 · 22/09/2019 22:34

Laxido is a godsend from the GP!

When I’m not pregnant, All Bran followed by a decent drink of water works pretty well. I just can’t stomach it currently!

AngeIoMysterioso · 22/09/2019 22:45

30ml lactulose twice a day and a senna tablet before bed.

fancytiles · 22/09/2019 22:56

Amazing reccos thank you!
@AngeIoMysterioso can you take senna when pregnant?

Definitely another vote for Laculose! Lifesaver!

RoseReally · 22/09/2019 22:59

Not supposed to take senna when pregnant. I tried to eat 30g of fibre a day when pregnant (there was an article about this on BBC a few months ago!) and the days I didn't manage that I took lactulose. Still got the bloody piles though.

fancytiles · 22/09/2019 23:11

Ok makes sense... big fan of senna when not pregnant although read on the packet not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding... though it didn't say it was banned so would be all over it if you can take it but thought I'd double check!

AngeIoMysterioso · 22/09/2019 23:31

Well I’m 35 weeks pregnant and it was my obstetrician who prescribed the senna at my 33 week antenatal appointment because the lactulose alone wasn’t doing anything... I’ve got GD so can’t have cereal etc

fancytiles · 22/09/2019 23:36

I guess they are always cautious in the leaflet. Will ask my doc, if all good I'm all over that, the stuff works!

Lactulose and Fybogel together

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 23/09/2019 09:04

Senna is a stimulant laxative and theoretically can stimulate the uterus as well as the bowel - best avoided.

Teddybear45 · 23/09/2019 09:21

Senna can stimulate the uterus. In India it’s often used by midwives to bring on labour.

paperplant · 23/09/2019 11:51

i found the combination of psyllium (I have the whole seeds in water, although think you can mostly get the psyllium husks on the UK high st) and lacto-fermented foods worked wonders - that was postpartum though, not sure if I'd be able to stomach fermented foods while pregnant!

Kinsters · 23/09/2019 12:26

If I'm really constipated I have a coffee, that usually does the trick. Day to day I try and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water.
