Washable wipes

I know this probably isn't the right place to post, but can't work out where would be and I'm hoping some of you on here who already have children might be able to help!

I'm planning to use Cheeky Wipes but I can't work out how many I'm going to need. We'll also be doing washable nappies so will be washing every other day I suspect. Anyone got any tips for how many you needed to start with (obviously once we get to the weaning stage we may well need some more!)

TIA!

in my day they were called flannels!

We use them, my dc is 2- I have about 40 wipes split between 2 tubs (one upstairs for nappies/one downstairs for face&hands), I probably do a wash 4-5 times a week and just stick the wipes in with the wash (don't do a specific wipes wash). Not sure if I will need some more when dc 2 arrives. But yes they are just like flannel face cloths but slightly smaller and thinner. Could probs buy fabric and make them yourself.

Or cut up an old towel and hem the edges

I bought a bundle of 20 from eBay, they were made by a WAHM. One side flannel - the other was fleece. They'd be really easy to make yourself if you have a sewing machine.

They were much better than the cheeky wipes we were given as the edges didn't curl up and they were better for wiping in general and much cheaper too.

I know it's possible to make my own... I can't actually be bothered to do this so I'm happy to pay for the convenience of buying them!

@m0jit0 did you use that quantity with DC1 from newborn?

@Weathergirl1 we only started using them about 6 months ago so not sure how many you would need for a newborn.

Celebelly · 22/09/2019 12:58

We had about 40 to start with too. We've now got a bit more as we are using a lot with weaning, so we have a tub in kitchen for face and hands too.

You won't regret it, they are so far superior to disposable wipes for actually cleaning poop away. I had to use disposables on a messy poop the other day and I swear I used about 20 when a couple of cloth wipes would have handled it.

@Celebelly awesome thanks! Oh I'm sure I won't - I really hate the disposable culture around us too so I feel like I'll be doing my bit 👍

Think I had 24 (2 packs of 12 washcloths) for bottoms and 4 flannels (bigger) for hands and faces
