If you were induced on first baby...

Did you go on time yourself on the 2nd?
I went to 42 weeks first time round, so had to be induced. It really was such an awful experience. From the time they gave me the gel I had contractions every 3 minutes for 22 hours... and then finally was ready to go to labour ward for 5 more hours of pushing, ventouse, episitomy... then I got infected stitches, antibiotics etc.
Anyway, I'm pregnant with number 2 and already dreading the thoughts of labour! I'm just really hoping the 2nd one comes naturally and quicker!

Induced at 42 weeks with first baby, second my waters burst naturally at 37 +6. Gave birth 6 hours later. Hope similar happens for you. Good luck!

I had an awful induction with my first. Was induced due to be overdue and then spent 3 days in labour strapped to a bed on that drip.... ended up with episiotomy which got infected and stitches fell out, took months to heal enough to sit without pain

Second birth I wanted a home birth to try and avoid all that... but ended up being induced again on my due date because there were some concerns about babies growth.
It was actually loads better. My body seemed to know what it was doing this time. I didnt get put on the drip induction because the pessary worked right away so I was able to move around. It was much more painful than my first but it was over within 3 hours! Start to finish, and I went homage day. The next day I was out in town with the baby.... was slightly bruised but basically fine and was absolutely amazed that you could feel that good after giving birth! Was just walking around like normal. So even though it was more painful because there wasnt time for pain relief I'd take that second birth over the first any day.
I do think it's TRUE that your body understands what to do better the second time round... there seemed to be a lot less intervention even though I did not go into labour naturally.. my body seemed very ready to give birth this time round.

OP, My first birth was similar to yours although labour was longer.

Due to my experience at hospital I opted for a home birth 2nd time around. I was adamant that I was not going to be induced either, as I believe that’s what contributed to my awful experience first time around.

DS2 turned up around 41 weeks. 4 hour labour. Midwife made it to mine with 10 mins to spare! Grin

Thanks fallensky that would be the dream this time round! I'll just have to keep hoping. Krisskrosskriss that must have been scary to be told you had to be induced again after hoping for a homebirth. I'm glad it was much quicker though and you could walk after. I think it was 2 weeks before I could, so hopefully my body will kick into action quicker this time too.
Wow that's brilliant mintbiscuit I'm the same in that I want to avoid induction if at all possible. I must say I'd be starting to worry again if I got to 41 weeks, I'm glad yours came just after thatSmile
