Out n About Nipper Double for newborn twins?

Hi all

I am currently trying to decide which pram to go for for twins due in the new year.

For a while I thought I was dead set on the Mountain Buggy duet but the more I’ve spoken to people (at a TAMBA workshop) and researched apparently a lot of mums love the Out n About. They also mentioned the wheels on the MB duet can be a bit rubbish.

My main query is how well it works for newborns - the carrycots look a bit dumped in to the main frame. Also I know you can’t attach car seats to the pram - would this be a deal breaker?

Would love to hear from any twin mums who’ve tried and tested to see what they think!

My sister had twins and had an incredibly old mountain buggy she got off ebay which was fab, she refused to buy the duet as in her words 'it was flimsy and shit'. When i was due dc4 i got a nipper double as had 14 months between dc3 and 4, this was also secondhand and my sister collected it and used it for a couple of months till she could deliver it. In her words again 'wish i had got me one of these first, this is even easier than my buggy'. Admittidly she didnt use the carry cots and because the seats were lay flat neither did i, boot space in the car was far more necessary. Its also way easier to transfer a baby into a buggy, if they are sleeping they pretty much remain sleeping or soon drift off again, its also not advised to keep young babies in their car seats for very long as can restrict air flow with their seating position, its also much better for them to be flat, so its always surprised me that companies make clips so that you can attach baby seats to prams.

Thanks @Phillipa12 yeah, I noticed the Out n about has the lie flat newborn option too; my sister has a 16 month old and said she never used the car seat attachment on her pram either. But then I have other friends who tell me it was a godsend at times when baby had drifted off in the car! But if they’ll just as easily drift back off in the pram perhaps it’s not such a deal breaker after all :) Thanks for sharing!

We had a mb duet and it lasted until they were 3 and was heavily used and we then sold it on second hand. Did have the puncture proof tyres though. We do know people who had the nipper though and it does look good. I would def go for either over a travel system type like I candy or buggabo everyone we know with twins for rid of theirs after a year or 18m and got a stroller type.

Oh and car seat attachments. We used the a lot early on for short journeys like popping to town, hospital etc. I don't think they are essential but it did make life easier for a bit..mine always fell asleep in the car...I do think for us they were worth it.

I loved my Nipper many moons ago after getting through about five prams.

It was great and saw us through a long time - and the only issue was an occasionally flat tyre.

In the end it was just too wide, so we settled on a Phil and Ted's which was my favourite of all!

I love our double nipper and used it from newborn with the newborn insert. Be aware that as they are real tyres they can get punctures, so be prepared to have to fix them.

Thanks so much everyone - really hard deciding between the two perhaps I’ll see if I can find a store to test them both! Good advice re: punctures also.

We used to put green slime in our tyres to prevent punctures in the end!

I got the mb duet for my two and sent it back it was so flimsy. The hoods for the carrycots just blow over slightest breeze. I would def get the nipper

I purchased 2 complete spare rear wheels so that if i got a puncture i had an immediate spare so buggy was never out of action.

I had a double nipper when I nannied for a toddler and took my own toddler with me. Fantastic to push around, one handed steering even when laden with the older siblings school bags and scooters. They are a little wider than other side by side doubles so can be a struggle in smaller shops or front doors of older houses. I think I took it unfolded on the bus a few times and it just fitted in the buggy space.

You can have the tire inner tubes slimed (think Out n About sell them pre done or a bike shop will do it for you) to reduce punctures. I did a lot of off-road dog walks with my single one and it worked really well, except in cold weather when you might have to re-inflate and spin them to get the slime to fill any holes again at the beginning of your walk. I just carried a pump and mini repair kit with me and kept a spare inner tube at home.

I bought both mine second hand and resold the double for almost the same amount after a years use and the single for half what I paid after 4.5 years heavy use.
