Pregnancy related sickness & work

NC in case outing
I have had 2 pregnancy related sickness absences in the space of time that work start their disciplinary procedure and had to have the first meeting. If I get a further 2 in the space of time it goes to a second meeting, third and then disciplinary

I wouldn’t actually get a disciplinary because it’s pregnancy related but apparently they still have to follow the normal procedure.

Has anyone else experienced this?

No because at my workplace you just don’t log pregnancy absence in the HR system (my manager keeps a manual track of them for date purposes so he can trigger maternity leave later on if needed).

Ye nhs you don't trigger, would be a waste of resources to do the meetings if I were you contact your Hr as I think this could be classed as stressful and they have to be very careful whej your pregnant

Watching with great interest because I'm in a similar situation. Haven't had the first meeting yet but think I might run it past the union rep and check all is above board.

I'm nhs too. No idea how to contact our HR. I do have an Occ Health appointment booked though, maybe I should be mentioning it then? Sorry OP, will stop trying to derail your thread now.

@Tableclothing can I ask what the pregnancy problem is and how long you have been off? I had two sicknesses one at 8 weeks where I had pains was scanned at epu and was told to rest so signed myself off for the week! At 15 weeks I started with terrible sickness had two weeks off (sick note) due to not keeping anything down and had to be medicated! On both of these occasions I had to have the back to work meeting with my ward manager however the sickness was not recorders as it usually would be and she said it wouldn't effect record, at 23 week I was admitted to labour ward due to suspected waters gone and early labour it turned out to be an infection and spd, I was signed off and am now 27 weeks and still signed off I'm under physio who had given me crutches I can't go back until after baby born now, however I don't need to go in for any sickness meetings etc and just continue tAkkng sick notes, I actually asked to be referred to occi health this time at 24 weeks to see if duties could be changed but after a telephone appointment it became clear it was doubtful and now on crutches there no chance!
With regards to hr don't you ever phone them about mat leave etc? I just ring switchboard and ask to be put threw xxx

So I spoke to HR and they advised it is done because they have to follow the same process for everyone. Even though they can’t give me a disciplinary in the end so actually would be a different process Hmm

@tableclothing definitely run it by your rep and let me know what they say!

Pregnancy related illnesses fall under disability discrimination legislation and you should therefore not be penalised for them. Speak with a union rep who will advocate this for you and that it does not make any sense to put you through the stress of a attendance management panel given this.
