Long haul flight booked - anything I should know?

I’m off on a week’s holiday to America next month, which we booked long before I knew I was pregnant. It’s an eight hour flight and I’ll be 11 weeks pregnant by that stage.

Is there anything I should be aware of or any precautions I need to take?

I’ve already booked window seats there and back, but should I try to move to the aisle if I can? I’ve read that it’s important to move around a bit while in the air and don’t want to keep disturbing whoever sits next to me and DH!

I’d say if you can move to an aisle seat especially if you regularly need the loo, I travelled to Dubai when I was pregnant and my main tip is comfy clothes. My boobs at the time were agony so baggy top and no bra were my saviour

Definitely aisle seat! Access to the toilet, plus the ability to get up and walk about a bit. My midwife advised that pregnancy comes with an increased risk of DVT so you need to be getting up regularly.

Aisle definitely!

The important thing is to protect yourself from DVT.

Wear flight socks. Get a good brand, such as Scholl. They're expensive but robust and last for many flights. I tried a cheap brand once and they were feeble. A well-fitting pair are perfectly comfortable.

Move around. Definitely change to the aisle seat so that you can get up every hour or two. Find a space to do some stretches and squats or yoga. There's usually a convenient space at a door. Whenever I've done this I've been joined by others, or others have taken the space to stretch after me.

If you cannot get up frequently, then activate your muscles in the seat. Clench-unclench buttocks, thighs, calves, toes. Point-stretch-flex feet. Rotate ankles slowly in both directions. Do the same for shoulders, arms, hands.

Comfy clothes. Loose waistband and your favourite bra (which, at 11w, may not be the same as pre-pregnancy).

Drink lots of water. No alcohol and only a little tea or coffee.

Enjoy the flight and your holiday!Smile

An aisle seat for possible nausea and toilet trips and flight socks.
You're still early days so shouldnt be that uncomfortable so you should still have a wonderful time.
I flew to Beijing at 8 weeks and the worst thing was feeling sick the entire flight and getting too hot
