"Borderline" Fetal Heart Rate

Hey all,

I went in for my first scan today. It has been 6 weeks and 6 days since my last period and baby was measuring at 7+2, which the doctor said was a good thing. But I'm concerned about the heart rate, which was 99 bpm. The doctor mentioned this was slightly "borderline" (I think she said anything above 100 bpm is not borderline), but seemed totally unconcerned, saying that we may have just caught the baby during a period of rest and that everything is looking promising. She then proceeded to hand me various pamphlets about staying safe and comfortable during pregnancy, so I'm guessing she doesn't think a miscarriage is imminent.

Maybe I shouldn't have done this, but I Googled when I got home and now I'm concerned that 99 bpm is ... quite low. Like, I'm seeing that fetal heart rates at around 7 weeks should be at least 120 bpm to be viable. Am I being crazy for not just taking my cues from the doctor and accepting that, at least for now, things are OK? Or is there something to worry about here?

First of all congratulation OP! I'm a sonographer (you may have been scanned by a sonographer not a dr). It's far too early at this stage for the fetal heart rate to have too much bearing on the viability of your pregnancy. It's very uncommon for the heart rate to be checked at only 7 weeks too. Please try not to worry. As soon as a heart beat is seen the risk of miscarriage drops significantly.

Good luck.

Thanks @Doublechocmoc! That is reassuring. And yes, I was scanned by a sonographer but saw the doctor afterwards to interpret the results.
