I’m nearly 28 weeks and finding the only position i feel comfy and relaxed is my back (nooooo!)
I find as soon as I turn on my left side my breathing i restricted. Right side not so bad but still not that comfortable. I feel guilty sleeping on back so try and create a kind of half back half right side position 🄓. Roll on December for c section šŸ˜‚ xx

Fell your pain hun I was exactly the same trying to find a comfortable position lol. Either side my boobs hurt if I slept on my back I snored lol xx

I'm similar (which is strange since I was a side sleeper before having a bump!).

I've read into it quite deeply and lots of doctors seem to think that the side sleeping advice might be over cautious. If you're in a position that might restrict blood flow, pins and needles will wake you up far before you do any damage.

There is no better feeling than lying flat on your back in those hazy post-birth hours!

MrBobLobLaw · 17/09/2019 07:38

Have you tried a pregnancy pillow @kellyw1989?
I'm similar except that I usually sleep on my stomach, our if the question at 33weeks!
I wouldn't have got any sleep in this pregnancy or my first of it wasn't for my bb hug me pillow. Literally the best pregnancy purchase I made! I also use it as a feeding pillow and my DS now uses it as a wrestling toy ha.
Anyway there's loads of diff pregnancy pillows out there so I'd give one a go and see if that helps.
Or a cheap version is to put a pillow under your bump and between your knees and ankles.

I think you dont need to sleep fully on your side. I'm an anaesthetist who looks after pregnant ladies having sections, I just tilt the table slightly to the left as the obstetricians cant do the op if you arent reasonably flat. Frankly they whinge enough about the tiniest tilt and the women are fine. I think you could achieve a similar effect with a pillow under the right side of your back so you are slightly tilted?

MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue · 17/09/2019 08:02

I am almost 25 weeks with my second and also love sleeping on my back. I thought the issue was if you lay flat though, so I make a 'pillow slope' so that I can sleep on my back but in a tilted position. It's not as comfortable but I find it much comfier than my side!

UnaOfStormhold · 17/09/2019 08:14

Obviously check with your midwife but the reason for not lying on your back is that it can, for some but not all women, restrict their breathing. If lying on your side makes your breathing difficult but lying on your back doesn't then surely it's better to lie on your back!

Veganmedic · 17/09/2019 08:25

The reasoning behind it is to do with compression of the major abdominal blood vessels and restriction of blood flow causing drop in blood pressure.

The u shaped pregnancy pillow has saved me, i'm also a back sleeper and 36 weeks with my second dc. It keeps your hips/, knees parallel wedged between your knees but ALSO makes you feel like you're on your back by giving you support behind you. You can roll a bit onto your back and it keeps you tilted. I'll try and find a link.
