Labour? 39 weeks

Hey!
I am pregnant with my first child and I have read up so much stuff about labour, however I feel EXACTLY the same as before.
Other than dropping a few weeks ago & uncomfortable braxton hicks, there is nothing telling me that labour is approaching.
Can it happen suddenly? Should I feel more pregnant? Family aren't letting me do much and I am feeling like a prisoner waiting in the house!
My next midwife appointment is when I'll be 41 weeks. Surely they cant leave me wondering until then! Lol x

I’m in the same boat ! My first baby and I turned 29 weeks yesterday. No signs, or BH just looser stools(sorry) for the past few days! My next appointment has been scheduled for 3 days after my due date so 25/09/19. No idea what happens if you go overdue etc and procedures so I’m going to keep an eye on this thread 😊 xx

*39 weeks sorry

Jent13c · 16/09/2019 09:02

I was induced at 41 weeks and had absolutely no signs of labour. I felt totally fine up until then. My SIL on the other hand just looked like birth was imminent, she could barely walk and just had a general fed up look and felt so uncomfy all day Long. I think that's when the baby really gets into position for labour, like when you feel the head low...unfortunately I never felt that until a couple of hours before he was born!

Mcphers · 16/09/2019 09:04

Oh please do let me know how your appointment goes! I can't believe I need to wait until 41 + 4 days for my next appointment. I'm worried that this is me for the rest of my life lol!
I really assumed I would be feeling different at this stage??. I am so ready for the baby and feeling impatient and annoyed now lol xx

I went into labour at 41+4 weeks, 2 days before my scheduled induction. I felt really grumpy and uncomfortable for the 2 weeks beforehand but I think that was just because I was so huge!
I had SPD and the only thing I can think of that was maybe a 'sign' was that the pain suddenly got much better 2 days before. I think baby had moved ready for birth and all of a sudden I could move again! But other than that, one minute I was sitting in bed eating biscuits and watching TV, and the next I was having contractions. I had a few episodes beforehand where I thought it might be starting, but when it did there was no mistaking it!
Congratulations on your baby, nearly there now!

Hi!
I’m 39 weeks too. It’s my second baby but I’m still not sure what I’m waiting for. First one- I was sat on the sofa and my waters just went, which isn’t usual!
No BH here either. Midwife on Thursday so hoping to see how engaged baby is.

I had no signs of labour with my first until I was actually in labour. Didn't have a show, my waters didn't even break, just all the sudden felt like I had really bad gut ache and that was the start

jaggynettle · 16/09/2019 09:42

My first inkling that labour was on the way was when I had some v v loose poo! Sorry if TMI!

That was approx 8pm, woke at 2am with mild cramps like period pain which intensified overnight. Went to hospital at 1pm where I was found to be 8.5 cm.

Didn't have a show, waters didn't break - didn't have any "classic" signs.

LillyBugg · 16/09/2019 09:47

I had no signs prior to labour actually starting with both of my children. DS1 came at 37+3 and DS2 at 41. With DS2 I was desperate to have him and the night before I was totally fine, at a bbq with no signs at all. Went into labour in the night, contractions really started at 4am and he was born at 7.01! I'm sure quite often it just happens OP. Hope you aren't waiting much longer.

Thank you so much everyone! Some of you seem to have had quick(ish) labours, which if what I'm reading is correct, you guys are the lucky few!
Some threads I'm reading say folk had a show a few days/weeks before. Or loose bowels. Nothing at all for me!
It's just hard to wrap my head around labour being soon when I feel the same. Hunkydory & babycakes, I hope your babies make an appearance soon too. Congratulations!

It really all depends. Some people start to feel a bit different or sense changes and others feel no different until it kicks off and it's very sudden.

I didn't feel different at all until the cramps started. To be honest, as I hadn't had any braxton hicks I assumed that's what it was and didn't click it was labour. Probably a bit naive as they were painful and eventually kept me up all night but I didn't realise until my waters went.

Im now 37+6 with #2 and didn't make it this far last time so am trying to figure out any "signs".

Sadly, it's just a waiting game and noone can know when it will start. And yes, you do just have to wait for each midwife appointment.
Once you are due, they may offer you a sweep if things look promising and that can sometimes initiate labour but it's not a given.
