Hi,

Just looking for anyone's recommendations on double prams?

I will have a baby & a 17 month old toddler.

I prefer the in-line ones but am open to all suggestions!

Thanks!!

I have the same gap.

DC1 ended up being a reliable walker- now dc2 is six months and we only need the second seat as a back up for when she gets sleepy or we just need to park her somewhere safely!

We ended up getting a Phil & Teds Dot which I’m happy with. Much nippier than a lot of doubles (and most prams in general) and I love that we have the option of one or two seats. I didn’t want to get another travel system as they’re so much heavier and clunkier, especially as the dc get bigger.

They’ve released a new version of the Dot which has addressed a lot of the niggles that I have with our model- they’re quite reasonably priced as well when you compare to the iCandys and Uppababys etc.

Can't recommend the mountain buggy duet enough ! I have it for my baby & 2 year old . It's the same size as a single pram . Fits through single door ways and on public transport :)

WatermelonTart · 15/09/2019 14:35

Thank you both so much - these are both great & give me something to look at other than the regular internet recommendations!

There will be 16 months between mine I've gone for the icandy peach double with main seat and carry cot for baby

mistermagpie · 15/09/2019 15:35

20 months between DS1 and DS2 and there will be about 2.5 years between DS2 and the new baby. We have a baby jogger city mini double and I have loved it, it's been ages since I used it (DS1 is 4 now so walks) and I'm actually looking forward to getting it out again! It's really compact, massive hood and easy to manoeuvre.

JackieandWilson · 15/09/2019 23:27

Mountain Buggy Duet - love it!

Pros - never had a single issue fitting through anywhere! Doorways, shops, etc. (I tell a lie ... The only place I couldn't fit was a silly lampost sign thing you walk under in the street Hmm. It's really easy to push on any terrain - a lot of people have commented on how great it feels compared to their other brand doubles. The kids are side by side and can both see (which I find a bonus for my nosey twins). Great big enough basket underneath, brake & adjustable handle & also really easy to fold.

Cons - slightly heavy to put in boot when folded & kids are in perfect range to fight/annoy each other ... although hopefully you won't have this problem !

DappledThings · 16/09/2019 07:28

Exactly what JackieandWilson said!

thetwinkles · 16/09/2019 07:39

Out and about nipper - side by side but fits the majority of doorways. British made too

Redken24 · 16/09/2019 07:41

There's a mountain buggy sell swap on fb if your after a duet.

There is 17 months between my youngest 2. We went for the bugaboo donkey.

It seriously was the best pram I ever had! It converts from a single to a double and then back again. So when your older child stops wanting to use the pram so much then you just easily convert it to a single but then if you are going to the zoo etc and know it will be handy to have a double you just convert it back.

It was really sturdy, easy to push and steer, easy to bump up kerbs, both seats are at a regular height so no bending down really low (difficult after another c section). Everything was washable, seats, hoods, etc so it was incredibly easy to keep clean andin good condition.

I bought mine new and then sold it to a friend when my youngest was just over 2. They are quite expensive brand new but I thought it was very worth it. But second hand ones are worth a look too. I sold mine for about £600 a couple of year ago.

Another vote for mountain buggy duet and a side by side. Problem with the inljne one is that as they get older your oldest will want to chat / demand snacks etc and you'll find yourself stopping and going to the front of the buggy the whole time. When side by side you can attend to them both much easier and they entertain each other too. You can get a cocoon so your newbie is facing you and once a big bigger there are see through windows on the hood to keep an eye on them.

I had an out n about nipper for a newborn and a two year old. I loved it. I lived close to the town centre so walked a lot and never had issues getting through doorways. It was a dream to push. I loved it so much I bought the single version for dc3.

ohdearymemumof3 · 16/09/2019 09:37

I have an Oyster Max Tandem.. do NOT reccomend.

mistermagpie · 16/09/2019 10:24

Side by side is definitely better, it's easier to manoeuvre too. I have an uppababy vista which converts to a double, I used it about three times because it's so heavy and cumbersome.

JoshMumsnet · 16/09/2019 10:57

Hi,

We tested most of the double buggies currently on the market - and we picked the Out N About Nipper Double as our favourite.

The review is here. It might be helpful.

nonmerci · 16/09/2019 11:11

Bugaboo Donkey is great, I like the fact it converts into a single when the older one starts to walk.

I’m facing the same age gap and I think I’m going to stick with the single pram and ergo carrier at first.

Angelinthenightx · 16/09/2019 12:04

Bugaboo donkey is amazing i had that when i had toddler & baby, can also use it as a single. Once u use a bugaboo u wont want any other,im going for the cameleon this time. Go try out onces in store see what suits what your looking for.

Chewysmum · 16/09/2019 12:25

Definitely the Out and about nipper, like someone else said, it's a side by side but easily fits thru doorways and on buses etc. I always feel sorry for the kids in the in-line ones, one is so hidden away. I only have one DC but I bought the single version after trying 7 other prams first and it's AMAZING. I recently successfully pushed it over 3 miles of sand dunes and beach, there is nothing this pram can't handle. Before this I tried the all terrain version of the mothercare Orb and it was absolutely terrible compared to the nipper. I've also had 2 babystyle prams, a cosatto and a couple of others, none had a patch on the nipper and best of all, it was the cheapest, easiest to fold and holds up to 4 years old so I'll never need another. So happy with it x

WatermelonTart · 18/09/2019 02:55

Wow - thanks a lot!

You've all convinced me to go for a side by side! Great points made!

I'm actually looking a lot at the Mountain Duet.

My issue is that currently we are expats. We are a few thousand miles from the UK & we visit when we can. I don't want to get an overly expensive pram as it'll just be shoved in cargo & I'll be mighty miffed if I spent the best part of £1,500 for the airline to break a wheel 😅

You can get special cases to put your pram in :)
