I was wondering when you all plan or have done up your baby nursery. I know all being well she will be in with us for a few months after she’s born but I would love to do up her room.
I’m 24 weeks atm and a nervous wreck due to a previous miscarriage so I’m scared of jinxing anything or having to much done. Seems like we have lots of time left so I was interested to you your experiences and time lines

Tia guys

We are 34 and 5 today and have only just finished. I was really suspicious too and we’ve only just taken our car seat out of the box to check it works and fits in the car!
Whenever you feel ready would be my advice xx

Honestly? Never, with any of my 3. I just bunged a cot into the spare room we had 6 months or so after they were born.

In fact, more planning was done with Dc2 and 3 because I needed the older ones out of the cot so I could use it again

I’m 37 weeks and we’ve only just finished it (still need a couple of small bits, like a rug). I think we started clearing the room out at about 30 weeks and painted soon after. I was also anxious after a prior miscarriage so delayed it and even once painted put off getting the cot assembled etc. I’ve found nice to have it done at this stage, but equally if you want to leave it, baby will be in with you at the start anyway.

We never really had it β€˜ready’. We had a two bed house - the β€˜nursery’ was our tiny spare room. We knew we would be moving out when DS was about 3 months so never put the cot up, just a changing table and kept the sofa bed to sit on (which couldn’t be pulled out anymore because of the changing table). We still put some nice Winnie the Pooh pictures up though for good measure Grin. But if you want to do it β€˜properly’ I don’t think 24 weeks is too early if you want to make a start. You can then put things like baby clothes, teddies etc. away in a proper place and it’s just nice I think to have that special space there just to walk in and muse about your new arrival Smile

We moved after DS was born so we had his nursery ready by the time he was six months to move into.

Had we been here already though, I'd have wanted to have had it done before I was about 34 weeks. I was just too big after that to have energy/ability to paint and sew/fit curtains.

MindyStClaire · 15/09/2019 14:02

There's no right answer. I was due in April, so we did it over the Christmas break, think I was about 25 weeks. We had to paint the room and assemble all the flat pack furniture as there was nothing in there beforehand.

Personally I took the view that while there's no guarantees in pregnancy, once everything was ok at the 20 week scan the risks were low enough to proceed with optimism. But I don't believe in tempting fate, so it was more about balancing the upset of a house full of baby stuff if it went wrong Vs having it all ready to go if everything went to plan.

mynameiscalypso · 15/09/2019 14:06

DS is one month old and we haven't even started yet. Oh, that's a lie, I bought a curtain rod which I haven't put up yet and which we don't have any curtains for yet.

My baby is 6 months and we have never used his room yet. Hes having his first night in it tonight. They sleep in your room for first 6 months so in reality you can leave it. When hes 4 months let him spend a few hours at a family members and sort it as you'll have recovered by then. I literally have used his room for storage up until tonight lol xx

Spam88 · 15/09/2019 16:01

Can't really remember, but we started buying stuff after 20 weeks. Was all sorted before she arrived, wouldn't have wanted to be doing it with a baby really. She slept in with us for the first year, but the nursery was still used for feeding, changing and keeping all of her stuff in.

That said, in now 27 weeks with baby number 2 and we haven't even started clearing all the crap out of the room that will be the nursery πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I did ours when my daughter was 2-3 months old, newborns sleep a lot and I knew I’d be bored. Also you get to know your babies likes and dislikes before you do the room

BeanBag7 · 15/09/2019 18:43

I think it's a good idea to do it during pregnancy. After the baby arrives we didnt want to spend evenings decorating or building furniture, we just wanted to go to bed!

Fivebyfive2 · 15/09/2019 19:02

Hi! I'm coming up to 24 weeks, we have alot of baby stuff because we got some hand downs and caught some sales etc. At the moment everything is all over the place, so we might get the room sorted earlier than planned just to get it all together! I definitely want it done for Christmas, so we have it sorted and don't need to faff about after baby is here. But everyone is different, I'd say do what works for you πŸ™‚
