NIPT - any point doing it if combined bloods screening was low risk?

Hi guys,

I had a friend strongly recommend we do the NIPT/Harmony blood test which I didn't even know about until then. But we've had our results come back from the standard combined screening (Down's, Edward's and Patau's) and they're all low risk, so not sure whether to have it or not...thoughts?

Thanks so much!

If it’s come back low risk I would bother with nipt. When I had my combined screening I got low risk too but if had got high risk I would have done nipt rather than any invasive tests x

Wouldn’t bother. Sorry my stupid phone x

Why was your friend recommending it? I had the harmony test but my NHS scan was delayed so I got the harmony results first. I would recommend if for peace of mind but I'm older and mine was covered under a health insurance policy I have anyway. I'm not sure I would have paid £400 for it had my NHS result been low risk.

My baby is 4 weeks old now but if I could go back I would have had the NIPT. Our combined screening results were low, however at 28 weeks I was diagnosed with Polyhydramnios (excess fluid) and despite all the extra scans and specialist appointments they couldn't rule out a chromosomal or genetic disorder for sure until he was born. It played on my mind constantly and I think having had the NIPT too would have helped!
