Stress in pregnancy

I've just returned to school after the summer holidays and have an extreme challenging class to teach. I am finding my patience is on a thread and there is a tremendous amount of negative behaviour to which I find myself raising my voice several times a day. I'm also suffering from pgp and uncomfortable most of the day. Will this stressful environment be harmful to my unborn child?

I don't know the answer but I'm pregnant and I've got a hell of a lot of stressful stuff going on in my life so I'm hoping it's not going to effect the baby because there's not really anything I can do about it. I'm just trying to have as much calm as I can in between all the stress!

I have been very stressed throughout this pregnancy so far too and worried I have given the baby a personality disorder! - too many big life changes in one go.

Try to relax as much as you can. Can you raise your voice when needed to but not let it give you stress?

Think of all the good things that happening. Easier said than done - I know.

I had a really stressful pregnancy last year. Bullying and discrimination at work, FIL does followed a month later by both my grandparents (who practically raised me) and bleeding in pregnancy from 28-38 weeks when I was finally induced ... plus a load of issues with baby movement. Everyone told me the stress wouldn't effect baby just me and I think they may have been right. He's honestly the most chilled out happiest little soul going

Teaching is hard and stressful even when you are feeling well and have an 'easy' class. Is there someone you can talk to at work about it? Also it might be worth mentioning to your midwife if they can check your blood pressure or discuss the risks associated with stress.
I'm currently signed off but when I go back my class is very challenging academically so the pressure will be huge.
I really feel for you. How long have you got before maternity?

I’m finding pregnancy stressful. I’m lucky I haven’t had any particularly stressful situations however I worry constantly every little thing I do effects the baby. I’ve had a cry tonight as feeling a bit overwhelmed and now feeling guilty it’s just a vicious cycle.
Logically I know baby is well protected as babies are born perfectly healthy in the most horrendous conditions. But it’s hard to comfort myself with that in the midst of worry and anxiety. I cannot
wait until he is here xx

Thanks everyone. 13 weeks till maternity just dont know if I can cope with my class till then. Will see how things go the rest of the week then maybe speak to someone. I have the midwife next week so will ask her about the blood pressure and stress then. Giving myself the night off doing anything other than lying on the sofa tonight to try and relax myself a bit.

I had a stressful pregnancy (work stress). DS was absolutely fine and is now a happy laid back 13yo.

Absolutely do not suffer in silence. You need to make your line manager aware and ask for support. I know this is not something teachers like to do but your employer has to support you. If you are secondary, could your HOD do a swap with you, where you could take one of their nicer classes and they take yours? This has happened in my workplace and is a simple timetable tweak. In primary I know this may be different but could you ask for further TA support and plan group activities where you can split your key players? There will be a solution and your employer is obligated to help you with this but you must ask - you are not failing by asking for help. Good luck!
