Degenerating fibroid pain - experiences

Just looking for that really!

Background: I'm currently 24+6 with my first baby.
At my 12 weeks scan it was discovered I had a 5mm fibroid in the uterine wall. It was explained to me that they can get bigger in the first trimester due to the hormones and then shrink during the second and third due to the uterus expanding. I was told it can be very painful when they shrink.
At my 20 week scan it had shrunk to 3.8mm. I'd say that I had pretty constant, minor cramping up to about 20 weeks but nothing major and no bleeding ever.
The last 24 hours I've been getting short, intense stabbing cramps up one side of my uterus. This is new! I was wondering if this was the fibroid degenerating.
Baby wise, both my 12 and 20 weeks scans were fine and I'm still feeling the baby kick away.
I just can't find any experiences of it online!

Do you have a fever?

I'd say it's most common for fibroids to degenerate because they've grown so large, it's blood supply can't keep it oxygenated, supplies with nutrients, etc...

A 3.8mm fibroid is tiny. And I mean tiny. Degeneration is far more common at like 8+cm, so over 20x the size of yours.

I'd say the pain is more likely to be round ligament pain, as it isn't confined to the site of the fibroid itself. But you should probably be checked over by midwife or doc.

@physicskate Thanks for messaging
Firstly, I realise I put mm when I meant cm!
No, I don't have a fever, I feel fine generally. Touch- wood, despite morning sickness, I've had a good pregnancy (so far anyway!)

I had ligament pain between 10-12 weeks and then nothing since so I hadn't considered that. I'll mention it to my midwife when I see her next. I'm also having an extra scan later on to see how the fibroid is doing (they're taking it quite seriously which I suppose can only be a good thing!).
Any mystery pain in pregnancy is just instant anxiety!

I was in quite severe standby pain for a couple of months around 24 weeks from a very large fibroid and needed a lot of pain medication. Baby was absolutely fine but required a csection due to location of the fibroid. I’d say always get things checked out if you’re unsure
