heparin injections and labour

Hi lovelies,

So, I've been in heparin injections since 13 weeks pregnant. I'm currently 26+3. This is 9th pregnancy and 2nd successful pregnancy(DS is 9).

Has anyone else ever experienced heparin injections while pregnant?? Where you allowed to go full term? Where you allowed to go naturally?

I'm not seeing my consultant for another 5 weeks as I'm high risk due to my past medical history.
I'm just wanting to know peoples experience with heparin and labour?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and so sorry for your losses Flowers

I was on clexane, fragmin, aspirin (and a few other things!) in my pregnancy due to recurrent miscarriages before, I think they’re very similar so don’t know if this is of use.

I was on them twice a day and told to stop jabbing and aspirin when I went into labour which ended up being a few days overdue. I woke up in the morning with contractions so skipped it and I ended up with a CS for different reasons but all was fine and my consultant was happy for me to let things start naturally. Because of the CS I was back on fragmin for 10 days afterwards. I could jab with my eyes closed by then!

Wishing you every luck and health for the rest of your pregnancy and happiness with your baby.

I have been on heparin since my embryo transfer (Inhixia until 20 weeks then changed to Fragmin) and Aspirin from 20 weeks too. My hematologist has advised me from a heparin perspective that natural labour without an epidural or spinal would be the preferred option. But a C-Section would be preferable to a long Induction / Assisted labour. I have other conditions too that could impact which option is recommended - so will discuss this in more detail with my consultant after 32 weeks.

I was on heparin whilst pregnant following a DVT at 30 weeks. I was allowed to go full term (actually I went to 41 weeks), I even had an injection whilst in labour. All was fine - and no special arrangements were made as far as I'm aware. (My father however who was a GP - was horrified and thought I should have had the 'crash team' at the birth). Went onto Warfarin after the birth. My caveat to this, is that this was a while ago. Baby is now 18 years old !

Whether you are allowed to go over 40 weeks depends on why you are on Heparin. If it’s for a major clotting disorder or preclampsia and you have had late miscarriages due to placental insufficiency I would be pushing my consultant for an early induction at 38 weeks. If they were early miscarriages them it should be ok.
