Can anyone who had strep B tell me about their labour experience.
I labour fast so would need to get the antibiotics early, I’m assuming the midwifery low risk ward won’t be an option?
Did anyone go into labour early because of it? I heard it can cause premature delivery?

Thanks

Me :)
I also had a quick first labour, so went in to hospital as soon as I started for the second. They only got one set of injections in before I had my baby.
I can't remember what they did instead of the second set now though- 14 years ago!
I did have a water birth- I just kept my hand with the cannula out of the pool!

I had a strep iinfection, which I didn't know about which caused my yd to be born prem at 31 weeks. It was almost 20 years ago, so a bit hazy now. I can't remember having antibiotics but I must have done. It didn't affect her as far as I know. My labour was over a few days as they tried to stop it, and I was given two lung maturing injections to help her tiny lungs.

@Jollymollyx

I had this during the birth of my Son. My waters broke just over 3 weeks before I was due.
I was brought straight to a delivery suite where they started me on antibiotics and broke my waters fully. I also had to have pitocin to try and bring my labour on as even with my waters breaking I didn't go into labour naturally.
I ended up having an emergency caesarean but he was born perfect. They also gave him antibiotics after he was born and we had to stay in hospital for 3-4 days.
I hope this helps Smile.

Me. Diagnosed just post birth of my son. Following risk assessment he did not have antibiotics. Second baby was advised to have them if there was another risk increasing factor eg waters broken over 24 hours. After first birth I was told I would definitely need antibiotics in future deliveries but the advice changed in the five year gap between my kids. Advice also varies by NHS trust.

Hi! Was diagnosed with strep B during pregnancy with my dd. Waters broke at 39 weeks, had to have pitocin, antibiotics, long and hard labour. That was first baby though

NotSoThinLizzy · 10/09/2019 07:49

I laboured really fast with my 2nd so no antibiotics in labour. I was 39 weeks. We was kept in so baby could have antibiotics until his bloods came back clear. Was in for about 3 days

It doesn't necessarily rule out a midwife led unit, it depends on their policy - ours recently changed so I am allowed to proceed with MLU plan at the moment.

Thank you

It sounds like a lot of babies came earlier than 40 weeks. So will get prepared incase

I just hope if I still have it then that there’s enough time for the antibiotics

I had strep b and baby was on time. Staff wanted me to have 4 hours antibiotics before birth but it looked like labour was going too quickly midwife reassured me if they didnt get enough time for antibiotics they would just give them to baby. (Neednt have worried as labour slowed right down and I was given a c section, not due to strep b though)

I think the main concern is having strep b and not knowing. I had a massive bright yellow sticker put on my notes saying Strep B.
