Slapped cheek

Hi, I am 18+3 weeks and today I saw someone who told me as they were holding my toddler that they think their baby has slapped cheek.

My midwife told me last week to be careful as I have no immunity. I have no idea what to do. I am so worried and just sat here thinking the worst.

Anyone have any experience of slapped cheek this far on but not quite at the ‘safe’ 20 weeks mark?

I would speak to your midwife tomorrow.
It is a virus, so not sure whether they can give antivirals.
It can be quite nasty very high temperature etc with a rash.

I had a scare after potentially being exposed to slapped cheek and then displaying symptoms which could have meant I’d caught it at a very similar stage in my pregnancy. I had a blood test which tested whether I had it (and also to see if I was immune as I didn’t already know) and a follow up one a few weeks later too. The GP needed a bit of pushing to do this but I insisted as I was, like you, very anxious. Fortunately, although it turned out I was not immune, I also had not caught it. However, I was told that even if I had caught it, it didn’t necessarily pass onto the baby, and even if it did there may well have still been no complications from it. They said if I did have it they would give extra scans to check all is well. As above, I would contact midwife / GP first thing tomorrow, and see what they advise, but try not to panic.

I had pretty much the same experience as muddlingmyway. I had to have 2 blood tests, the first to test for prior immunity and another a few weeks later to see if I’d developed antibodies in the meantime. It turned out I was not immune but had not caught it, so all was OK. It was a really stressful time, so I feel for you. They said if I’d been exposed, they would have given me extra scans to check the baby was OK.

Just speak to your doctor or midwife tomorrow. Hope all turns out OK.

Thanks everyone. My friend phoned 111 tonight and from what they described they think what she had is a teething rash. But I have text my midwife and will phone Gp in the morning and get seen ASAP.

I know I have no immunity yet as midwife told me she knew this last week from the bloods they’d already done.

Thank you everyone, it is a horrible helpless feeling but there’s nothing I can do tonight. X

Little update, my midwife has contacted me and said not to panic unless Dd or I show signs of being unwell, then we need to see the GP. DD is tearing about full of beans so hoping it is all ok.

Thanks again for your supportive replies x
