Elective c-section after an emergency c-section

Hi, I am currently 26 weeks pregnant and I had an emergency c-section 6 years back. I see consultants along with midwife as I am on thyroid medication. The consultant I saw a few weeks, very casually said yes, when I asked him if I can have an elective c-section after a previous emergency one. The reason I had a c-section last time was because my baby went into distress, was quite high up and the surgeon after examination said there was no space for forceps and c section was the best option. Now, the consultant I saw a couple of days back, had got papers from my c-section and has insisted that I should come in after a 36 week scan. A consultant, a more senior doctor, than the one who did the surgery will examine and decide whether I should go for a c-section or not. I was very taken aback as from my previous conversations I thought I could get an elective c-section. The thought of waiting till 36 weeks and then the nhs not agreeing for a c-section is giving me anxiety. What are my rights and options? I am 38 years old, don’t intend to have more kids and certainly want an c-section. At 36 weeks, can I book one privately if I want to ? Won’t it be too late to do so? Many thanks

Ummm that doesn't right at all, you have every right to request an elective and it's your decision. Please don't let them try and change your mind if that's what you want.
I'm in the same position, 22 weeks with second after emcs and they've said absolutely no problem to planned section this time.

I had emergency c section 14 years ago and had elective last year with my little boy and will be again in 5 weeks.
My emergency was failure to progress and baby in distress.
Last year elective I didn’t decide till quite late on as was going to try VbAc but baby was breach and transverse whole way through so they booked me in for c section, baby turned last minute on scan but went from breech, to transverse to head down in minutes and was moving about so much they said it was an uneven lie and baby could turn again so I opted to stick with c section this was 38 weeks ish.
This time there was no question it was a straight you’ll be having c section. I’ve only just got my date through at 34 weeks though and I know it’s not unusual for it to be decided as late on as 36-37 weeks, doesn’t mean they will say no. I don’t believe they can say no when you have had one already, it’s your choice they can’t make you try for a vbac.

I was 36 weeks before they booked me in, think that’s standard with a lot of areas. The consultant was trying to persuade me to try to be induced first but went with my wishes in the end. She could have saved me months worth of anxiety if she had agreed from start Hmm

Thanks for your response ladies. It’s shame to be put through stress and anxiety for this. It’s not as if we are asking for a c-section on a whim. I don’t think I will be seeing the consultant before 36 weeks. But I will be seeing midwife before that. Should I discuss with her? Did you insist that your wish for elective c-section be written in your notes? I have spoken to them and a consultant before, and they said yes but don’t think made any mention in my records. Thanks

The midwife definitely wrote it in my notes a around 34/35weeks after seeing the emotional state I was in. She also put that she agreed a csec was best and backed my decision and reasons for it. So I would definitely ask you mw to do similar. You can request an earlier appointment with consultant if you need to discuss it, if that consultant won’t approve csec you can ask for new consultant.

This sounds very similar to me, and I believe normal. I had complications so was consultant led (hyperemisis and very large babies) . I had another scan at 35 weeks and it was at that on that I had the consultation for elective and was given a date at 39 weeks. It won't be done before 39 weeks, and it's only booked a couple of weeks before on their list.
