Maternity clothes

Hi everybody,

My bump this time round is a lot bigger than last time and now I'm really needing some maternity clothes.
I've bought a few things from new look but definitely need some more, especially jeans. I was just wondering what shops you would recommend. I have seen a few things on Dorothy Perkins has anybody had maternity from here before?

Yes I had some stuff from DP's, found the quality good, they lasted ok.
New Look & ASOS are also good for Mat clothes. The jeans from New Look are particularly good, mine lasted 2 pregnancies.

My local H&M has a small Maternity section. Yours might... not all stores do. They sell Maternity clothes on their website too. I bought two pairs of their jeans when pregnant with DC2 and lived in them. They were so comfy.

I have a few bits from H and M. Asos and Boohoo have quite a good selection and I have just ordered some tops from Gap and they were 40% off

I found h&m jeans comfortable... Until i grew out of them. I would recommend getting a size up. They aren't flexible around the hip area i find.

Bearlyawake · 08/09/2019 08:23

I found H&M jeans really comfortable. I also got a few bits from Dorothy Perkins, found the sizing a bit hit and miss depending on what I bought

eBay is also really good at picking up quite expensive pieces for really good prices. I've bought some lovely Isabelle Oliver and Seraphine dresses and tops from eBay.

I got jeans from Mamalicious online, and although expensive, the fit was the best I could find anywhere on the high street.
Everything available seemed to be a "skinny fit" and with legs like an elephants, we're just no good!
I also got some nice dresses and tops for Christmas and New Year which I struggled with on the high street too.
Being pregnant doesn't mean you have to dress boring! Smile

Topshop was my favourite. I got the same jeans I wore pre-pregnancy, just maternity style. Continued to wear them for a few months after baby too. ASOS was good for other bits and weirdly Uniqlo

I think it's dependent on build. I'm tall with a long back and shorter legs, and DP jeans were awful on me, I had to return them. The overbump band tore in the first wear because I was hoiking them up so much.

I've had better luck with M&S skinnies, which have been great and increasingly comfortable as my bump has grown.

But mainly I've LIVED in the DP overbump black joggers, they are sort of a slim harem style and £20-£22ish. They are lightweight but keep their shape and don't bobble in the wash, and so don't look too casual or sporty when worn with a nice top.

I found D&P wrap tops - I've got a few in short and long sleeve and different colours - a bit too gapey at the chest but they give a lovely shape overall. Great with a vest under and will be perfect for bf. Next have been good for casual tshirts and there are some nice ones in the sale at the moment.

I second DP sizes being hit and miss. Best overbump jeans - jojo, best under bump jeans - red herring Debenhams (5 foot 3 size 10/12 so might not be the same for taller ladies)

I bought 90% of my maternity clothes on Vinted, an app where people sell their stuff - many of them brand new. For me it was really worth not only for the prices (which are very good), but also for the better impact on the environment when you reuse things.

I'm struggling with jeans. 27 weeks and pretty much outgrown my boohoo ones which were already bought a size bigger than normal. Reluctant to buy anymore and them not to fit or only to get a few weeks wear out of them. However, desperately wanting more jeans.

I got lots of stuff from boohoo, my friend gave me a few bits from dorothy perkins and new look. Just bought myself a winter jacket from Seraphie, expensive but very worth it imo

Asda! Surprisingly decent quality for the money.

OxeyeDaisy · 08/09/2019 16:53

I have been living in mothercare jeans, ASOS leggings, and h & m t shirts. I have some mother care T-shirt’s too - the patterned ones are great but the plain ones don’t keep their shape around the neck. I also have a couple of tops from jo jo maman beebe which are nice for something a bit smarter.

PrincessSarene · 08/09/2019 17:12

I’ve found Next have been pretty good for maternity stuff. I normally buy jeans from there anyway as they suit my shape (long legs with very curvy hips) and the maternity jeans have been so comfy. I’m currently 28 weeks and have a massive bump (second pregnancy) and the jeans still feel like they’ve got plenty of stretching room so hoping they’ll see me through to the end. I also looked on eBay for nice tops, dresses etc. and as a PP said you can get some really good stuff from there - I guess because in the grand scheme of things, maternity clothes aren’t worn for very long really.

Cookit · 08/09/2019 17:25

eBay bundles.

I don’t like buying too much new because of the environmental impact primarily. About 80% of my maternity wardrobe was pre- loved and I got some great stuff on eBay.
