Hi Everyone,

I have previously posted about my problems conceiving with a very irregular period and after being referred to the gynaecologist and having my first appointment I have found out I am pregnant!
I currently think I am around 6 + 5 days and I have an early scan booked in for next Wednesday as a previous ultrasound showed that I have a heart shaped womb.
I am really concerned about what the womb malformation means for my pregnancy, does anyone have any experience of healthy pregnancies with a heart shaped womb?

Hi,

I am currently 13 weeks pregnant, also with a heart shaped uterus.
I bled daily for around 5 weeks from 7 weeks with 2 bigger bleeds at 8 weeks and 13 weeks.
I haven’t seen my midwife since finding out I have a bicornuate uterus, but the sonographer said that I will be under a consultant for the rest of the pregnancy due to possible complications.

I have just joined some groups on Facebook that you might find helpful.

Thanks for the reply, I will look into the groups on Facebook, I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

The effect on your pregnancy is entirely dependent on the exact physiology of your uterus and where the embryo has implanted. It's very possible for it to have no impact (a huge number of women don't know they have this until pregnant or they never find out), or a considerable impact, like addicted89...

It's not really possible for me to give more specific advice, other than to say that statistics are on your side, and all is likely to be well.

I have a heart shaped womb. When pg with second baby I started bleeding at 8 week. Went for scan, found out about heart shape and was told the side that didn't have the baby in had shed its lining.

No other known issues and no further bleeding but I did retain my placenta which could be related.

Just make sure you are consultant booked and have extra monitoring. A majority of women with a bicornuate uterus have healthy pregnancies, and from what I've read online so many women don't even find out until their second or third babies. It does depend on the severity of the septum but they can't look at that when you're already pregnant.
My first pregnancy I was told by multiple healthcare professionals it makes no difference and was put as low risk. Then my son was born very premature. I'm not saying that to scare you and it's unlikely to happen but having a good consultant and extra checks makes all the difference.
