It feels like somebody has taken a steel toe cap boot and booted me in the crotch, several times

Aka Fanny Daggers

I feel for you, it was one of the worst parts of pregnancy for me, along with carpal tunnel in my fingers

basicwitches · 06/09/2019 10:34

Fanny daggers, brilliant!

Could be pgp/spd. Try to get a referral to physio (which will likely take a long time).

Helpful advice (and private treatment options) on the pelvic partnership website.

ELM8 · 06/09/2019 10:59

Yes I have this!!! Started at 27 weeks.

Sorry I have no useful advice at all but it hurts, a lot. Can't sit with my legs crossed or stretch much. I feel your pain.

melissa1215 · 06/09/2019 10:59

basicwitches · 06/09/2019 12:08

Yes, with my 2nd I had a scan at 28 weeks. The sonographer took one look at dd's position and said "ooh that must hurt". It did.

Imnotaslimjim · 06/09/2019 14:14

Sounds like SPD. My GP put me through to physio on an urgent referral, only took 10 days. They'll give you exercises to strengthen the pelvis and advice on how to move/sleep to minimise pain. I ended up on crutches at 29 weeks, that really helped.

Dramaofallama · 06/09/2019 20:15

Currently gone 28 weeks and have been having this throughout the pregnancy.
It comes and goes but gosh! When it happens, I don't half know it.
My GP said it just my body stretching and preparing for everything.

Fanny daggers and PGP are two different things. Fanny daggers are shooting pains, like the baby is playing catch with your nerves, nothing you can really do for them but at least they're gone quickly!

PGP is awful, and lasts for a long time. It's your pelvis being unstable after stretching, or something of that kind. It feels like being kicked in the crotch, or like it's splitting in two, or a million other pains!

Get on to your midwife ASAP for a physio referral, and look at what you are doing physically. The only way I've got through is to completely scale back- my office job was escalating it because of the chairs, so I worked from home where possible, driving/walking distances aggravates it, bending over or crouching, dog walking or anything that might jar it. So scale back! No bending over to the washing machine, get someone else to do it, be a passenger instead of a driver. Best thing ever is a pregnancy pillow, sleep with it between your knees and ankles so that your pelvis is at a good distance. It honestly helps ease s lot for the next day.
