C-section or VBAC??

Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone knows of reasons why you would not be allowed to try a natural birth after a c section, at my booking appointment my midwife seemed sure that i would need to have a c section with this baby, not sure if its because i had a complicated first labour (son was stuck and back to back which led to c section) and i also had an eptopic pregnancy which ruptured and resulted in surgery to remove affected fallopian tube. Just wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation and if you were allowed to try natural birth? Obviously will listen to doctor and midwife and do what they feel is the safest option for my baby. Thankyou for reading. Xx

I tried for a VBAC on my second pregnancy but this too resulted in a c-section. Same reason I did not progress passed 3cm dilation. This time I have opted for an elective c-section to be on the safe side. Consultant left decision to me but did say they can't be as sure on the stats for a second VBAC as not so common. I was wanting to try for another VBAC but would be gutted if I end up having to be put out for an emergency c-section and then not have my partner there (it's his first) and not be able to have skin on skin straight away so to be doubly safe on everything I opted for the elective c-section in the end. Usually the obstetricians fully support a VBAC so I'm sure if there is no particular high risk to yourself or baby you could opt for the VBAC 😊.

It all depends on your original need for c section and the likelihood of that repeating. I had a c section first time around after induction for pre eclampsia. I got to 7cm. I had a successful VBAC (forceps) 14 months after that and have then had another 6 vaginal deliveries since then. There have been a couple of hairy moments during subsequent labours where I've nearly ended up with another section but they've always been due to the baby not problems with me. The one thing to note though is that I've always been closely monitored and can not be induced using pessaries. I have been induced 5 times by breaking my waters. I have never needed my contractions augmenting with a drip but I have been told that can be done but wouldn't be done in a first VBAC. Again though that may be consultant dependant and not necessarily the same everywhere. The thing to do is to be as informed as possible. When I was pregnant with my second the consultant for all for me just having another section but I knew I'd probably want more than 3 children and knew that more than 3 sections isn't generally recommended.

@laurenbxx my first was a c section due to same as u ds was back to back and lodged they but me down for another but I refused and went on to have my next 2 children naturally once u have a c section they usually assume that's how u deliver as you get the choice x

Hi, I had to have an emergency c-section with my first, I haven't had an ectopic so our situations aren't the same but my midwife suggested it would be my choice and that I would be under joint midwife and consultant care due to my first.
Had a meeting with the consultant at around 15 weeks I think who basically said it was up to me but there's no reason for me not to go for a VBAC and that's what they tend to recommend. But I've got our 2nd appointment with the consultant in two weeks when I'm around 35/36 weeks to let them know a final decision. I'm going for a VBAC but I think they want to book a c-section for if I go a while over my due date xxx
