So I’ve just had my first appointment with the consultant, due to having high blood pressure with my first baby (4 years ago) and small first baby and she’s told me to start taking aspirin everyday, anyone else had the same experience!!?

Yes that's the standard prevention technique for pre-eclampsia

Breathlessness · 04/09/2019 11:40

From the NHS website

If you're considered to be at a high risk of developing pre-eclampsia, you may be advised to take a 75mg dose of aspirin (baby aspirin or low-dose aspirin) every day during your pregnancy from when you're 12 weeks pregnant until your baby is born.

Yes I had exactly this, I had hypertension with my first and I've been on asprin this whole pregnancy. I'm 33 + 2 and they've told me to stop the asprin week 36. No hypertension yet, just been on the edge but not been medicated at all apart from asprin yet so fingers crossed!

Thank you
Congratulations @NeatFreakMama xx

Yes I am on 75mg of aspirin daily since about 9 weeks when I had my booking in appt.

frsttimemama · 04/09/2019 12:56

Hi @SamRwl, I had the same because, my Mum had pre-eclampsia with me.

It's a bit of a pain at the beginning because, I kept forgetting when trying to remember and then locate some water to dissolve and take the aspirin but, 36 weeks into my pregnancy and it has just become part of my routine.

Tip! - They don't taste particularly bad but, I pop them in with my morning berocca every day to disguise the taste and also, it stops me forgetting.

Also, I used to get hormonal headaches at the beginning of my pregnancy and since going on the aspirin, I haven't had any (touches wood)!

Congratulations, by the way SmileFlowers

Yep - had hypertension with my first and am on 150mg of aspirin daily, which is enough to control it this time. I take the coated gastro resistance tablets, which you can buy off the shelf in places like Waitrose.

Might be worth talking to your consultant about your dose - recent studies have shown 150mg to be a more effective daily dose, which is why my consultant has upped mine.

@frsttimemama I've been suffering really bad with headaches these last few weeks!! Yes, I really hope they help 🙌xx

I’m on this too - no risk factors apart from my mum having pre-eclampsia with me, my blood pressure has been fine at all MW appointments. I do want to read up about this a bit more as I know aspirin is generally contraindicated for pregnant women, especially in the third trimester (I’m only 19+2 at the moment) interested that you’ve been told to come off it at 36wks @NeatFreakMama.

itsabongthing · 04/09/2019 17:45

I had this too. What’s your issue with it?

Teddybear45 · 04/09/2019 17:56

I have a rare clotting disorder that is associated with preclampsia but have very low blood pressure - even I have to take Aspirin and Heparin injections to prevent preclampsia.

SamRwl · 05/09/2019 10:51

@itsabongthing I had really high blood pressure in my first pregnancy so it's to prevent that happening this time x

Yes I am on daily aspirin until 37 weeks (currently 18) because I had pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy 13 years ago. They never put me on aspirin for my second pregnancy. They are also checking blood pressure every two weeks from 24 weeks and once a week from 30 weeks.
