Holiday clothes at 16 weeks

I'm currently 13 weeks and just look fat (was a stone heavier than I wanted to be before getting pregnant but still within a healthy BMI). I look like a barrel as I'm fat under my boobs too. I'm going on a beach holiday at 16 weeks pregnant and imagine I will still just look fat and not pregnant. Would you just get normal lose clothes (any recommendations) or were you in maternity clothes by this point?

I wasn’t in maternity clothes until about 28 weeks. I also got very bloated 10-16 weeks where I was in that awkward chubby phase of not really looking pregnant, just feeling bigger than my usual size. But that went away and by 24/25 weeks I had a nice little bump.

I would just size up or buy loose flowy clothing for your holiday if you think you will feel more comfortable

Not in mat clothes here either until about 24 weeks. I am the same as you and now I'm 28 weeks have started looking pregnant with a bump rather than like a barrel. I just wore floaty dresses and stretchy shorts /Leggings with bright tshirts and stripey tops and a denim shirt over the top when but colder. Just go for total comfort tbh.

Honestly I'm 40+4 weeks and I've not worn maternity clothes at all! I just bought £2.50 Primark leggings in various different sizes and bought baggy T-shirt's and jumpers. Cheap and cheerful from primark can't go wrong! 😁

I didn't start showing until I was about 20 weeks and until then I just looked fat and continued to wear baggy clothes. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable hun! Whatever you wear make sure you feel comfortable ☺️ x

Thank you. I don't think I will be in maternity clothes for a while! Just going to have to continue looking like a fat barrel 😂 I'm not too worried about the day, more the evening so will just have to find some dressy straight dresses and wear my best shoes to distract or something 😂

I popped in week 16 and had to move into maternity clothes. Everyone's different so my advice would be to pick a few things that allow for a bigger tummy and are comfortable. Comfort really is the aim of the game. The best thing about maternity clothes is that they are flattering. A couple of times I bought normal clothes in the size up but I ended up looking like a roly poly pudding and returned them. Haha!

The best thing about beach holiday clothes is that you can get some lovely flowy dresses and looser fits and they're all in the sales now. Bonus! Grin

@Maybbabi that's what I look like a roly poly pudding 😂

I'm 16 weeks now and in maternity clothes. Only 1 dress still fits from before. I would definitely get yourself a swimming costume if not a few maternity clothes. They will probably be more comfortable for you, and you will need them sooner or later anyway.

Im 15+4 and have bought a few mat bits. Its easy to hide at the moment but I'm certainly getting a proper bump.
I was the same as you when I fell pregnant. Would have liked to lose a stone but still within a healthy BMI.
I was very bloated too before the bump popped. I needed bigger jeans for comfort but didn't just want to by bigger sizes as at seemed a waste of money, so I just bought some under bump maternity jeans and it was the best thing I ever did!
I'd definitely buy a few mat bits, especially as you'll be hot so more uncomfortable than usual.

Ginandtonic31 · 04/09/2019 14:23

@HorseMum91 I'm hoping a lot of my barrel is bloating to be honest and it starts to ease off. I might look for a couple of maternity dresses for evening and see what they look like. I will get my wear out of them anyway. It's hard to know what another 4 weeks will look like! I'm tempted by maternity jeans for the flight tbh!!

My advice is to get ones that you can breastfeed in afterwards. I found it annoying to have maternity dresses I liked and fit me immediately postpartum but that I could get the boobs out in.

I was on holiday at 16 weeks and found empire line dresses were the comfiest (luckily I had these anyway as they weren't maternity)

I would definitely recommend maternity swimming costume or tankini though, as it just gives you that extra bit of room! I got one from George at Asda because I didn't want to spend too much too early

I’m going away at 25 weeks but still fairly small. I just got myself a holiday wardrobe from boohoo maternity. Loads of the dresses/skirts are mega stretchy and so fit fine now when I’m small but will fit if I bump out properly while away. I spent about £140 and have a total holiday wardrobe with swimwear and allsorts. Worth a look I was surprised-not thick material or made to last that long but perfect for cheap and cheerful
