Excursion

I understand this topic has already been covered by others, but regarding this situation I'd like a personal fresh input. My best friend is in her first trimester, bordering her second. She works a very physically demanding job, but it's something she enjoys so stress isn't the issue. What's the issue is that her husband passed away and thus, she's providing for her future child alone. Which is why she's going for as long as possible without taking maternity leave.

I can somewhat understand due to her work being one she enjoys, but due to it being quite physical (she's a martial arts instructor as well as a fitness instructor), I worry about over excursion. I'm qualified in first aid, but would like to know signs and symptoms if she begins to wear thin. I worry for her, taking on so much by herself since her husband passed. I want to make sure she's okay.

Okay guys please ignore the eyesore of my auto correct. I meant exertion but for some reason my phone kept auto-correcting to excursion

you mean overexertion?
I imagine her midwife will be advising her on when to stop working but many women across the world do quite physical work until quite late into their pregnancies - its not ideal but needs must in her case. Must be so difficult when her DH is no longer with her Sad

She hasn't looked into a midwife yet, due to spare time as well as not quite reaching her 2nd trimester. It's her first pregnancy, so like myself we're both quite clueless, though once she gets a little closer she will definitely be seeking more professional help. But as of now she's more focused on saving and preparing.

Should she not have seen a midwive for her 8 week appointment? Which then gets you a scan.

TanteRose · 03/09/2019 08:56

yeah she should probably register with a HCP

Her accrediting organisation/s will be best placed to advise her.

i don't think you need to more solicitous of her fitness and health than she is, unless there is a reason you think she an't or won't check for herself

If she’s nearing her second trimester she is at risk of missing her screening tests and dating scan which are performed before 14 weeks. She needs to contact a midwife ASAP.

SeraphinaEdith · 03/09/2019 09:02

I'm unsure if she has with. Pretty sure she has. As for the midwife, where I'm from midwife is a nurse who helps in the labor process, she has gotten scans- so sorry for the confusion.

I'm just mainly worried about her exerting herself.

Are you in the UK? She should have had at least 1 scan, blood tests and various screening tests done by now.

Are you in the uk?

SeraphinaEdith · 03/09/2019 09:09

She is, yes

I think the best thing is just to continue to be there to listen to her and support her if she asks.

SeraphinaEdith · 03/09/2019 09:18

I'll take all that's been said into consideration and talk to her. If I have anymore questions I'll definitely will be coming back here.

Thank you for your time.
