trimming the lady garden when 7 months pregnant ...

Yes, I know I should have name-changed - but seeing as I'm suffering terribly with "up-the-duff brain", I'd probably blow it later on by posting under my real name anyway ...

Am now 32 weeks - and have managed so far to keep my lady garden trimmed more or less as normal ... but now I really can't see what I'm doing!

Am still having a minimal wax done (just to keep the edges under control) ... but how on earth can I keep the main bit of lawn trimmed?

Do I have to just let it run wild?

I am 32 weeks too and having the same dilemma !!
Blimey, you are brave doing the waxing thing...I hear it's really really painful to do it when you are pregnant. Super sensitive !!!
I have gone for the bikin razors but maybe the in shower hair remover could be the go ?
Or would your other half assist perhaps ? I may have to ask mine to soon !!
I think it's good to keep up the standards eh ? !!!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/08/2007 22:10

the only way i found was to get dh down there for a trim!

lol

ejt1764 · 07/08/2007 22:13

I don't so the waxing myself - I've carried on having it done all through pg - only missed it once when I was feeling at my very worst with ms!

tbh, I haven't found it (bikini wax) that much more painful than usual - but I have found that having my underarms and eyebrows is a bit more wince-making than usual!

I'm having weekly hydro sessions for spd - so feel that I need to keep it all under control - although the bump and crutches are probably drawing more attention than my overgrown lady garden!

Can you just trim using an in the shower remover - I just want to keep the bit in my knickers from taking over the world!
What's a bikini razor? Can you get a general lady garden trimmer?

Can't really see me asking dh to help with gardening duties - he's already having to keep my toenails under control!

Well any kind of disposable razor will do for trimming one's foof, but in late pregnancy you probably can't reach let alone see. If you have a live-in DH/DP get him to help unless he has a twitch/severe sulphate habit/unspecified grudge against you. But TBH most people at the swimming pool won't be able to see any stray curls or at least won't notice them because they will be to busy looking admiringly at your bump.

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 07/08/2007 22:24

there was a great tip for bikini trimmers on due in sept thread. i got one and did a fab job (can do it myself looking in mirror). from argos. pink thing by remington i think, £20 and worth every penny.

ejt1764 · 07/08/2007 22:28

fab - I shall have a look at the argos site ... bet it's not called a lady garden trimmer though!

How do bikini trimmers work? Are they like those epilady things that yank the hairs out?

I'm 27 weeks and starting to struggle with this problem. DH did offer to use my home waxing kit for me?????? As if I'd let him

ejt1764 · 07/08/2007 22:31

tee hee ... just looked at the argos site and found this ... - do you think I should use the arrow stencil as a reminder for dh to stay at the head end during my labour?

I have found the one I think you mean too ( this one? ) ... but the stencils on the other one look hilarious!

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 07/08/2007 22:40

yep, it's the second one. i had a little snort of laughter to myself when i saw the one with templates...did wonder about going into labour with a little arrow...

and no, they trim rather than epilate. i am way to cowardly for anything remotely painful. i started on the longest setting and worked my way down to a close shave (ahem, tmi).

remarkable how much better i felt to be 'tidy'.

Alfie72 · 07/08/2007 22:49

The disposable bikini razors with shaving mousse have proven to be very effective. I have to hold my bump up and angle my legs on the side of the bath, not very ladylike really.
Wouldn't recommend that particular position though for SPD sufferers ( sounds painful ejt1764)
Maybe I could invest in an electric number ?
Not an epilady though....lawnmower springs to mind.
I have been hearing sordid tales of emergency c sections and dry shaving so I am trying to prepare the garden just in case....Although I was reassured by another mum today that the shaving thing aint necessary anymore.

janestillhere · 07/08/2007 23:04

Yes, dry shaving not good
When I was a student nurse I had to dry shave a blokes plums before surgery.
He was none too pleased.
I know that litle snippet of info is not pregnancy related but I felt I should share it with you.
I made a SCRAPING noise with with each stroke.

I've been having brazilian waxes throughout my pregnancy (am 31 weeks) and have noticed that the pain actually lessens...

missbumpy · 08/08/2007 10:44

I'm 30 weeks and was having exactly the same problem. I got a lady garden trimmer (I think they called it a bikini trimmer on the packet)...or a "muffmatic" as my dp likes to call it .... from Superdrug for £9.99. It seems to do the trick. I just stand over some newspaper in front of a big mirror and give it all a going over. They're the same thing as mens' hair clippers, just slightly more feminine packaging.

Not sure how to do around the edges though. I was just using a razor before but now I can't see it, it's getting a bit trickier. Don't think I could face a brazilian wax if it hurts more than usual.

thomcat · 08/08/2007 10:47

I've used a tiny bikini razor and been very careful and used nail scissors to help with main area.

Will book in for a wax a few weeks before due date.

Has anyone here read the Female Eunuch? Are people's muffs out of control like some bad sci-fi B-movie? Will they have to call in the National Guard and get Dustin Hoffman in an NBC suit? Or are we dancing to a tune, like some reactionary sonic dog whistle, that sends us into 'too much' hair anxiety.

I love this thread and hope I'm not spoiling the party, but I'm wondering if I'm abnormal for not doing anything with mine (except perhaps plaiting it). Will there be shock and horror in the delivery room if I go in there au naturel?

The hair on my head has gone all luscious and thick for the last few months, which is v welcome. Perhaps something's happened down there as well. We haven't got a full length mirror in the house at the moment, and I can't see round my bump. Has anyone noticed astonishing growth, or do you rip it out before it's had a chance to sprout meaningfully on your pristine pudenda? Poppy x

missbumpy · 09/08/2007 12:36

I'm kind of with you on this one Poppy...yet hypocritcally I can't help but tow the line and do what society expects of me. Same reason that I wear make up I guess.

I think it is growing a bit thicker and faster than usual. Everything seems to be growing faster in pg (head hair, nails etc). Still, I wish I had the courage of my feminist convictions and could throw the lady garden trimmer away!

Good for you if you choose to go au naturel. Wear those pubic plaits with pride !

Ash80 · 09/08/2007 12:37

Is it safe to use hair removal creams while pregnanat?

ejt1764 · 09/08/2007 19:24

poppy - I would love to be able to leave it and go "au naturel" ... the problem is that I have wonderfully thick hair (am a very hairy person anyway) even when not pg - and trim when not pg ... and the pg hormones have made it even more so ...

This is for me ... not for anybody else's benefit!

p.s. found a muffmatic in asa today - it was £10 ... am going to try it out!

OP posts:
missbumpy · 09/08/2007 20:07

My DP will be so glad that the "muffmatic" is catching on . He should patent it!

Good luck with it ejt1764. Make sure you've got a mirror and some good lighting...I managed to nick myself slightly the first time I tried it ouch!

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 09/08/2007 21:22

i was au nat for last birth poppy and couldn't give a flying what anyone thinks - but frankly really don't think hosp staff give it a second thought. so trim or don't trim depending on personal whim! and good luck with birth (think it's a good sign if you're still wondering about your pubes when you're in labour!)

hayley2u · 10/08/2007 11:15

i use hair removal cream. but not doing much so now i cant see it . does ayone know if it ll be ok to use hair removal cream befor a c section. just bit scared might be too sensitive on the skin x

worzsel · 10/08/2007 12:32

I planned to sort mine out nearer the time but at 32 weeks i went in to unexpected early labour and gave birth to my daughter in a room with 10 people in worrying about the state of my unruly lady garden ! i'm sure it looked horrific, next time i am getting DF to look after it for me.. oh the shame !
