Eaten some unpasteurised cheese

I'm really panicking. I ordered a mozzarella pizza in a restaurant yesterday, didn't think much of it - mozzarella is on the NHS list of safe cheeses and it would be cooked anyway. When it came the cheese wasn't melted, had been put on afterwards, and looked kind of fancy like an artisan cheese. I was a bit worried so my husband scrapped it off onto his plate and I ate the rest of the pizza.
Couldn't shake the worry afterwards and today rang the restaurant and they told me their buffalo mozzarella isn't pasteurised. I'm really worried now, obviously I didn't eat much at all but there would have been a tiny bit left on the pizza. I'm 36 weeks and have read enough to know how terrible listeria could be. I don't have any symptoms and I know the GP won't take my worry seriously.
Help.

You'll be fine the chance of you actually getting listeria are no different if you're pregnant or not, it wouldn't even occur to you that it's a possibility usually she the chances are rare

It’s very unlikely you’ll get listeriosis from such a tiny amount of cheese but you could always go to your GP to discuss this, especially if you develop any symptoms of being unwell.
It’s a simple course of penicillin to treat it and that’s safe to use in pregnancy.

Stop worrying. You'll be totally fine. These are slight risk factors rather than something that is definitely going to happen or cause a problem.

I craved peanuts when I was pregnant and ate them with abandon even though they were on the list of "forbidden fruits" at the time. All three of mine were fine. No issues at all.

You could get listeria from eating celery too, or lettuce, or tomatoes, or hospital sandwiches...

I had a nice brie sandwich today. I guess I'm dancing with fire. But the risk is small and I've yet to contract listeria in my life, or any food poisoning to be frankly honest.

And seeing as you didn't even eat any... you'll be fine. It isn't the cheese that is bad, just the small risk it poses.

So whilst perhaps a diet of brie and things might increase the risk, having it every now and again won't hurt. Better to relax and just eat normally - a wide variety of healthy foods, than sit there worrying about flakes of unpasteurised cheese.

Expecting Better by Emily Oster is - well I don't agree with everything she says, but it's a good book to allay some fears especially on food. That doesn't mean ignore NHS advice all together, but use it as guidance.

Please try not to worry unless you start to feel unwell. I'm sure no harm will come to you or your baby. X

In France and other countries they don't stop eating these foods when pregnant. Relax. You'll be absolutely fine. Stress and worrying is worse for a baby than a whole pizza full of unpasteurized mozzarella.

Don’t worry, most of the restrictions are a bit OTT in my opinion. You only have to look at how often they change 🙄 When I had my first 7 years ago I was told not to have a bath for goodness sake!! I have indulged in the odd bit of pâté and I haven’t died yet Wink

I really fancy a nice Camembert too
