Same boat! I'm 24 weeks my physio app is next week can't wait for it as it's getting worse and worse! I'm currently signed off work and have been two weeks as I work in a. And e so no way o could do the shifts!
I have been put on codeine at night for pain x

Go for a deep tissue massage, do some gently yoga moves that help it if you can.

Elmo311 · 31/08/2019 12:31

Lots of pillows, pillow between your legs too!
I went to the osteopath and they helped me a lot as well.
I also made my OH do most of the housework as I found bending down aggravating and by the end of the day I was in agony.

Once the baby was out it all went away though, if that's any consolation! X

It probably isn't sciatica but the under muscles of your butt. I get the same issue and it's agony and imitates sciatica.

Find an osteopath (not all are qualified to treat pregnant persons), they will work wonders I went in on crutches with spd and they kept me going to the end without.

You need to ice pack your pubic bone and across your buttocks for a good while regularly to work on that deep muscle.

The treatment is rest rest rest. No walking, no lifting, go up and down the stairs on your bum.

I have a big pregnancy pillow which I sleep with but it doesn't seem to help at all midwife has told me to only take paracetamol but they do nothing apparently the wait for the physio appointments is weeks :( I will try the ice packs I'll try anything at this stage the midwife told me to do a few things but it's so painful and I wish I had time for rest I have 3 other children my youngest only being 1 and his a very active nightmare Haha! I've never suffered with this before

My experience with physio was that it was a waste of time so just has to pay to see Osteopath.

Elmo311 · 31/08/2019 15:23

After all my Osteopath visits I felt much better. Towards the end of my pregnancy I went once or twice a week and it helped a lot.
The pregnancy pillow didn't help me, so I used to just shove a pillow behind my back to stop me rolling onto my back and slept with a pillow between my knees.
The osteopath gave me exercise to do at home (cat to cow (?) is that what it's called....was one of them!

Just rest as much as you can. Keep knees together when getting out of the car as well!

If you Google online you can find recommended stretches for PGP and sciatica, even before your physio appointment. That really helped me, I had sciatica type pain all down one leg for about 6 weeks but it has actually massively improved the past couple of weeks :)

Jowd92 · 31/08/2019 18:48

Yes the midwife said about the cat on the floor on all fours put head down to the floor and bum in the air and rock my pelvis but I'm scared if I get down I wont get back up lol she suggested I have crutches when i go to physio but i said i can't have them and push a pushchair too

I used to put my baby in the pram and push her to the car, I used to get her to crawl up and down the stairs. Basically I rarely lifted her, she was 95th centile for weight and didn't walk until after the spd bump was born!

Falafel19 · 31/08/2019 23:27

Can you book a private physio/osteopath/massage appt?

diddlediddle · 01/09/2019 06:48

Be careful with stretches etc recommended for spd online (eg mutu system recommended ones) - if they are asymmetric then they might do more harm than good. I knew they weren't good for my body and my osteo said the same.

I found ice pack helps the most. Not much else helped except getting the baby out!

Jowd92 · 01/09/2019 07:10

Yes going to look into going private and well I have a long wait until baby comes out roll on december I think I'll be counting down the weeks quicker

Sorry to say nothing helped me with SPD it just got progressively more horrible. Physio will recommend yoga like exercises but as someone who did yoga daily these didn't help and just hurt more.

Cat/cow tilts are what precious posters were referring to, you can Google them, safe pregnancy yoga. Start on all fours, concave your back, life your chest and look up, then round through your back and push the floor away.

Ice pack on the front. I found heated pack on lower back nice. DH massaged my butt cheeks to try and release those. See an osteopath and try to rest as much as possible

I'm 7 month post and it's still really achy and sore but nothing like the pain I had.

Good luck really hope you get some relief

RandomMess · 01/09/2019 08:51

Although heat packs feel nice it may well be making things worse!
