Hey all! I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby and just wondered what everyone's opinion is on taking Baths as I'm worried that the ones I've been taking are too hot....Eaakkk! Also are there only certain bath products to use, I can't quite seem to make sense of what is online. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

My MW said you can have them up to 37.5° (I have spinal arthritis & sciatica so baths help a lot). I spent an hour in a hot tub last weekend set to 35° but kept my shoulders/chest out and didn't feel even warm. I think you'd know if the baths you were having were hot enough to raise your core temp. I'm 27 weeks for reference!

@SammiEllis1801 I love a HOT bath, like with steam coming of it 😂 I do put a bit of cold in being pregnant but as long as you don't sit in it to long and let your body temp rise then your fine!

Also just use regular bath products, stuff with essential oils avoid! I bought some bath salts filled my bath and put them in and then read on the back cant be used whilst pregnant or BF! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Baths usually aren't hot enough to cause a problem. They begin to cool straight away so wouldn't be able to raise your core temp to a dangerous level- unless you're filling your baths with boiling kettle water or sitting in a cauldron over a fire Grin

As for products, avoid essential oils, some lush items and also bath salts.

I had DD in March and had hot baths right the way through winter with no issues you'd have to be in it for an extended period and the temp maintained consistently high for it to raise your core temp high enough to cause a problem.

I am living for baths during my pregnancy. Having them slightly cooler than normal but still pretty hot.. they start cooling right away Smile

You don't need to worry, a hot bath is not going to increase your internal temperature and even then it's only really a concern in the first trimester. Where I live pregnant mums go to sauna throughout pregnancy which is a lot hotter than a hot bath and there's no increase in issues.

Only a hot tub which maintains the heat and doesn't allow sweating to cool you down could potentially cause issues.

There is something called clary sage which is in some bath products (radox is one I know) these are meant to be used to induce labour so shouldn't be used during the third trimester (this is what I was told, please correct me if I'm wrong!)

HJWT · 31/08/2019 16:18

@littlemama18 its the muscle soak version your talking about but radox have said the quantity used in the products is not enough to cause any problems x

They actually say not to use anything like that though because it can cause thrush more than anything 😂 xx

I had baths every day throughout pregnancy, never heard that I shouldn't so this is a new one on me. I was fine and so was my child.
