Low lying placenta - 20 weeks - will it move in time for holiday

Hi there, had my 20 week scan a few days ago, all ok thankfully however just at the end of the scan they advised that placenta is "lower edge is completely covering the internal OS" so they advised I will likely have to have a section which is fine as that what I had planned. However we remembered we are due to fly abroad for a family holiday at 29 weeks!! I have to return for another scan at 28 weeks to see if the placenta has moved.

I was just wanting to see if anyone else had similar experiences with this and... did it move! I really feel like it could be 50/50 if we get away or not as I have to signed off by the doctor to fly!

Thanks guys

I had it at 20weeks, got another scan unrelated to the low placenta at 23weeks and it had moved out the way. After a very quick uncomplicated although 7weeks premature birth, I am Now sitting with my 20month old. Smile

Just to show the other viewpoint and not to be doom laden, BUT: I had a slight low-lying placenta at 20wk so had another scan booked for 32wk where I found out it was still there partially covering the OS. Around that point I also had a couple of small bleeds- for placenta praevia your hospital will likely want to monitor you on the antenatal ward for 24 hr after each bleed ceases.

Now 36wk and it hasn't budged and I'm having a c section at 38wk after a few more small bleeds.

I would caution with complete coverage of the OS that there is potentially a risk of some bleeding as you get bigger. My hospital told me after my second admission not to commute and to be within 15 mins of them at all times if possible (which I found slightly OTT tbh, it essentially meant house/ town arrest!) but I wouldn't have risked going away, particularly flying. Either way, I hope it moves for you but do talk to your midwife about possible risks.
