Retroverted uterus - 19Wks

Hey All,

I'm 19+1 today with my first baby (- hopefully as not first pregnancy but I've never passed the first trimester)

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced pregnancy with a retroverted uterus - I don't think I've felt baby move yet - I've been so worried but I've been continuing to grow and have heartburn on the regular the last week (I've never had that in my life before, and I asked baby for a sign and this is what he gave me)

Did you feel movements early on? Did you know it was definitely baby? I try putting my hand on my tummy when I think I feel it and then all I feel is my own bloody pulse 😂😂😂

Yes, I have a retroverted uterus, I honestly never felt DS move during the pregnancy except for the day before he was born. I also never measured big - midwife said I measured around 32 weeks max. My DS is a total wriggler and the consultant described his muscle tone as "exceptionally good". He honestly came out with biceps, triceps and super developed leg muscles.

@TheWashingMachine thank god! This makes me feel so much better, every scan we've had where you can see them moving he's been wriggling around like I don't know what so I know he's active but he just doesn't seem to be felt as often.

I'm going to mention it at my 20 week scan and see if they'll give me any extra reassurance scans because if I'm not feeling him move how will I know he's ok 🤯. Like they tell you to monitor movements but if I can't feel them how do I do this?! Mind blown haha

I had exactly the same experience but then I was a little overweight too which I don't think helps but there wasn't so much emphasis on the movements as much as there is now so I would be like you if we were to have another one now.

It was really towards the end for me too where I could feel proper movements before them it was like a flutter which I get often in my tummy when I'm not pregnant! She really moved when I was in the bath could see my stomach changing shape despite cushioning could see it.

I don't want to scare you because yours may not be as bad as mine but I would mention it at each examination the retroverted because even though its in your notes some don't pick up on it and that's what happened to me the worst part of my whole labour was the midwife or assistant who checked my dilation and poked and prodded the hell out of me because she couldn't find my cervix till someone else pointed out it was Retroverted! I was in too much pain to explain I wish id had said before she attempted to check! I have the same issue with smear I always mention it beforehand.

I labored in my back throughout I had back labour pains which I was told are more challenging which was nothing like anyone told me labour would be like, which also meant I didn't realise at the start I was in early labour, I don't think its 100% to do with a tilted though I think she was sunny side up which causes it too but they didn't realise that until she was being born!

I have one- so does my DM and DTwin, it can be hereditary. Tbh I felt baby move from about 17w. BUT my placenta is right at the back which makes it easier to feel things. Even if at first I mistook her kicks for a bubbly tummy. From googling it seems that in most cases as the uterus expands it generally tips into the right angle.

We've also got a history of haemorrhoids (even in the females who haven't had babies) and I was told the two can be linked as there's more pressure on your rectum. Just something else to look forward to!

Oh yes, do mention it when in labour, I also felt everything was happening in my back when in labour but I'd forgotten.
Your little chap sounds very cute.

I also found the scans a bit annoying as the view was rubbish so with both DC I asked for vaginal scans rather just on the stomach.

I've had a busy few days sorry for the late replies.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be 20 weeks on Wednesday and I'm still not feeling him. It's driving me insane and like I'm going to get bad news at my abnormality scan but I do feel pregnant and I think my bump is changing. It's just filling me with dread. Urgghhh. Send help hahaha
