Ok so had decided a few months that I would come off the mini pill and try for dc no 3 , we have two kids already, 11 and 8 and they have been also mad for a baby brother or sister, no sign of getting pregnant we had a chat and said maybe its for the best, as will be a big gap between baby and older kids, went in go pill again, said I would go on it after this period, due this week.

Joked with DH that I bet I will get pregnant wait and see. Felt a bit bloated and bit of a sick stomach in the evening last two nights, but DH did too so thought nothing, didn't vomit or anything, boobs bit sore but as period is due didn't take notice. Today my lower half feels so inflamed and sore, literally look pregnant, again put it down to period as this happens every month, bar the dicky belly.

I always have a load of pregnancy tests on hand just to check, did a test yday, saw the one line and fecked it in the bin in bathroom, said I'd do the second one tonight just as I felt so bloated, when I went to chuck it in the bin, I noticed yesterdays one had 2 pink lines, I kid you not, waited another minute and tonights one had two pink lines.

Im pregnant!! I went straight into chemist as didn't trust cheapy tests, got the clear blue week one, sure enough I am 1-2 weeks pregnant.

Girls I cant believe it, had sort of put it out of my head but I am just in shock here.

Just felt I needed to post. DH is delighted you'd swear I had just told him I had ordered us a large Chinese takeaway, hasn't knocked a fonk out of him, cool out.

I am 35 , am I too old? Am I mad? I have all these worries now that its happened, my last baby was huge and I bled a lot and had to have a blood transfusion and they never really told me why, just that he was a big baby and I had a bleed. I feel sort of silly for not having found out the more medical terms or why it happened.

Sorry I am rambling just in complete shock x

Congratulations!

35 is not remotely old!

Congratulations! Flowers

I’m sure once the shock wears off, it’ll be great news for you & your family!

Def not too old, I’m having my second at 32 (I have a two year old), I don’t consider myself old at all. In fact I was the youngest in my NCT class at 29 with my daughter! We ranged from 29-42, with most mid 30’s.

Your last pregnancy wise, it’ll all be on your medical records so ask your doctor about it & hopefully they can reassure you!

Congratulations Flowers

As a midwife and reading between the lines of what you’ve said, your baby was big and you bled a lot, probably haemorrhaged due to uterine atony (when it doesn’t contract after you’ve had the baby) as your uterus was so stretched from a big baby. You’ll probably end up seeing a consultant or registrar in the pregnancy and they’ll recommend an active third stage and maybe you could mention (if the docs don’t) that you would like to have a infusion on standby when you deliver to reduce the risk and amount of blood you’ll loose.

Best of luck for the future x

Thanks ladies, I don't feel old but I suppose since my first baby was 11 years ago it seems like an age .

Harper33 thanks for your reply, I am in Ireland, what do you mean by an active third stage ? Sorry I am so out of touch, I had epidural and he was essentially induced as I was 10 days overdue, so I had to get 3 rounds of gel if I remember correctly, then my waters broke eventually. He was 11lbs, I didn't have any tears or didn't have to use a forceps or vacuum , ( I had to get episiotomy and forceps with my first baby it was an awful birth ) . I felt great for the first few minutes after my son, then the blood literally drained from me and everyone panicked. I suppose I am just nervous I will have another baby and felt leaving me go over due wasn't great as my daughter was just under 10lbs for first baby

@BlancoNita The third stage is the stage between birth and the delivery of your placenta. An active third stage means that someone gives you an injection into your thigh as/soon after the baby delivers to contract your uterus which cuts of the blood vessels and stops you bleeding. If you think of your uterus as a balloon, if you blew it up to nearly bursting, then let it down, it would look kinda sad and saggy. Only your uterus has been supplied with 500mls of blood every minute for the later weeks of your pregnancy, so when your uterus doesn’t contract, the blood just flows out. It may happen again next time but they’ll be more wary of you bleeding heavily and so be more prepared to treat it ASAP.

Thanks a million Harper33 , you have explained it really well.

Ladies I am also freaking out, for the last week I have been on strong painkillers, to treat a lower back injury, I am going out of my mind worrying that I will have done damage. Do you think I will be ok. Why do all these things come to the forefront straight away its like instinct, counting cups of coffee and any wine I have drank in the last two weeks also
