Hi guys, consultant booked my induction for when I’m 39 weeks today, date has been set as 18th of September 😁 with my first one it was just a normal birth no induction. Has anyone been induced? Is it more painful? What’s your personal experience

Thank you ā¤ļø

I've been induced. I find the closer you are to labour anyway the easier it is. With dc2 and dc3 they were about to come out anyway and it was easy. With dc5 I was only 36 weeks and he put up a bit of a right to stay in so they had to evict him via the sunroof.

I was induced and had heard a few scary stories but my story is not scary at all. I had the pessary, it didn’t work. So I had the drip, and the medics very very strongly recommended/advised I had an epidural at the same time, so I did. A few hours later I blissfully pushed out a baby, pain free. I just wish I could have the same birth next time! So not all stories of inducement (if that’s the right work) have to be negative!

@elliejjtiny phew sounds like it’s okay then, I’ve heard so many horror stories that really made me nervous 😱 again I suppose it’s person to person. Haha sunroof šŸ˜‚

@doesn’t sound too bad then, I’d rather not have epidural I think. Does it hurt getting it? With my first one I had pethadine, that was heaven haha!

How long did it take you guys to give birth when you were induced? Someone mentioned foley bulb, sounds painful, did anyone have to have this?

Hi I only have the one baby but I was induced as waters broke but didn't go into labour... from getting induced I was there for 22 hours before she was born and having contractions the entire time! Ngl it did hurt a lot! But I've been told this is probably because my waters had already broke which made it more painful so hopefully it will go smoother for you! I had the pessary which started working after 10 mins! Hope everything goes okay for you!Smile

I would definitely recommend getting the epidural OP, or at least be open to it.

My 2nd labour (induced) was more difficult than my 1st, however my entire pregnancy was much more difficult and DS was back to back, and huge, so I wouldn't assume induction is always more difficult.

Good luck! Take all the drugs you feel like and try and stay relaxed. No one will be handing out medals for putting yourself through more pain than you need to.

@MeanGirls1 oh wow, long time haha but first one are normally long anyway. Started working fast atleast and thank you, I hope so too haha so ready to be not pregnant šŸ˜‚ā˜ŗļø

@WilheldivaHater if the pain gets too much I’m not going to say no, I think it’s just more again horror stories I’ve heard about some people getting back problems and such, I’ll see how gas and air goes first, couldn’t manage it with my first one as it made me feel sick. They are estimating that this one will be a big baby so fingers crossed! And thank you I can’t wait to hold her though ā˜ŗļø

Dc2 and dc3 I went in for induction at 3cm dilated already so they decided to go straight for the drip. They were both born before anyone had a chance to get a drip in me, dc2 90 minutes after arriving at the hospital and dc3 15 hours after arriving.

With dc5 the short version is I arrived at hospital at 11am because I was showing signs of infection. They decided to induce me at 5pm. At 8pm they examined me and my cervix was long and closed. At 9pm I was 2cm dilated and they started the drip. At 1:30am I was 4cm dilated but baby was in distress and trying to come out forehead first. He was born via the sunroof at 1:53am.

I had the drip without an epidural with dc5 and it was more painful than non drip labour but still manageable. I only got to 4cm dilated though. There was a lot of waiting around but I found if I just accepted it was going to take ages and took stuff to do it was a lot better than when I was expecting things to happen quickly.

Another one recommending the epidural if you are getting the drip. I found the drip unbearable!

I had an induction as my waters broke but had no contractions, we waited as long as possible (nearly 24hrs) but I didn’t start on my own.
They put the pessaries in at 11.30am, I was 0cm dilated. We went for some lunch thinking we would be in for the long haul, lol, I started getting period like pains after about 45mins so went back to our room. After about 2hrs I was having definite contractions.
I was checked again at 5.30pm (they wouldn’t check me before as I ā€˜wasnt in labour’) and was 7cm dilated. I had been calm and just breathing through contractions and a tens machine until this point, once she checked me I got gas and air. I started pushing at 6.15pm and baby born 7.04pm! So it doesn’t have to be long and painful. While it was very intense and I wouldn’t want to do it every day I consider myself to have had a ā€˜good’ labour :)

I had the drip and think it was at 7.5 and pethadine( unsure of spelling). I didn't have the epidural although they kept offering it to me, apparently it's because the contractions are more painful but tbf I didn't feel that way
