Breech baby at 34 weeks - will they turn?

My baby is still breech, it was picked up at 32 week during scan.
I've been swimming a lot, and sitting on exercise ball at much as possible in the evenings.
I will try to stay on all fours as much as possible now in the evenings, but everything I'm reading is suggesting you'd need something more drastic to turn them at this stage!
Also, I'm measuring around 36weeks (based on fundal and growth scan) and had a 9lbs baby last time...so don't know if this will reduce the chances of him turning further.
Have thought maybe I should try acupuncture or see osteopath or something maybe??

Look for someone practising Webster technique and look at the spinning babies website

Ps my almost 10lb baby was breech around 30 weeks but ended up the right way! Smile

My breach baby turned at 38 weeks (I was getting regular scans for gestational diabetes so can pinpoint it pretty easily). He was 8lb 1oz

My baby was head down between 30 and 36 weeks, then transverse, and then breech at 37. He refused to budge so came out through the sunroof. I'd say that if he could move in the wrong direction at a late stage, yours can go the right way :). DS was 8lb14oz when he was born at 38+4.

Probably not much help but I had an undetected breech baby at 34 weeks, and I’d been to the gp days before who had confirmed her head was well engagedHmm I had a vaginal delivery, So I think they can still spin around! Good luck!

sianyb83 · 28/08/2019 08:49

Thanks all, fingers crossed he spins!
I spent last night on all fours and it did seems to encourage a few big movements.
Will do the same tonight and also try to get a long walk in.
Really would like to avoid an ECV if possible.

I was in hospital due to be induced at 41+. DS was breech and a vaginal delivery was planned. He turned as I was in the shower right before I was to go down to the delivery suite. So yes, it can happen, and right up to the last minute it would seem. 🤞

NCBabyBoy · 28/08/2019 09:21

What's your concern about an ECV? It was unsuccessful for me and rather unpleasant, but only for as long as it lasted.
I don't think it's anywhere near as uncomfortable if it is successful. MN seems to think it's an extremely risky procedure and I don't understand why. Look up the information from the RCOG about it.

Bambamber · 28/08/2019 10:54

My baby turned on her own at 36 weeks. I used the exercises on the spinning babies website

Potatopia · 28/08/2019 13:04

I also don't understand the Mumsnet concerns about ECV, the NICE and RCOG guidelines recommend it and say it's safe and can be effective, both of which are based on evidence.

On the other hand, there appears to be no published evidence to support postural management and insufficient evidence to support moxibustion.

NCBabyBoy · 28/08/2019 22:16

Amen, Potatopia! And the one exercise I tried from the spinning babies website almost led to me falling headfirst off the sofa - I can't do that shit at the best of times, never mind when 8 months pregnant with a mega baby and lots of watersGrin

Smellybluecheese · 28/08/2019 22:19

I got told mine would never have turned as the cord was v short. I didn’t try the EVC. But they scan you before they take you for the c section so I’m assuming they think it’s possible that babies can turn right up to the last minute. So you’ve got plenty of time yet.

36 weeks and baby has turned 3 times in last 2 weeks. Bloody agony when he does it. If you go on all fours it gives them more room in womb and more likely to start turning

sianyb83 · 02/09/2019 17:34

Thanks everyone, 35 weeks today...for the last7/8 weeks my bump has been a weird v shape, with a hard pointy out bit on the top right...his head!
Based on this hostile appears to be head up, I had some big movements last night that were very uncomfortable so got on all fours...but I feel as thought he's just moved his feet up, so bum is down!
I'm going to try acupuncture on Friday, and keep swimming!

My 2nd baby was breech at 39 weeks and turned on the day of my C-section. It was cancelled and I had an induction to ensure he didn't change his mind.

My 3rd was transverse at 34 and remained so until 39 weeks when she went head down, but turned again at the point my waters were being broken so she was a section delivery.

I tried bouncing exercises, and inversions to get them to turn.

Ratbagratty · 02/09/2019 17:45

First baby engaged at 36 weeks then I felt her pop out and she was breech, I woke up in the night and felt/watched her turn! She was 5lb 2 at 37week emergency CS.

Second was transverse, she kicked my ribs a lot and I was tenderised! Then she went breech at some point. She was 7lb 10. As I was being prepped for planned CS (due to breech and size), they scanned her position. I told them where I knew her head was so they did that first and yup right up the top under the chest. Dr said yep she is breech all right, down to surgery looking very apologetic!
