Anterior placenta

Hi all. I am almost 21 weeks with my first baby. My 20 week scan last week confirmed that I have an anterior placenta. I haven't felt any movement yet. I know it can take a bit longer with the anterior placenta but just wondering if anyone else has or has had one and when you first felt movement? Thanks!

I felt some flutterings at 15 weeks, but really started to feel things around 25!

My baby is a month old now but I didn’t feel strong movements until week 30, defo not daily until about week 25 x

I had 20 week scan last Weds. I mentioned at the scan I hadn't felt any movements and it was said at that point that I have an anterior placenta. She said I should feel movements soon but let the midwife know if I don't feel anything by 24 weeks.

Today I felt maybe something but very low down? To be honest I can't tell Confused but I think it might be the start of something hopefully.
I have another scan booked for Friday as baby was in a poor position last time, which I'm slightly thankful for, as I get to see her moving on the screen again!

I was the same, some small tickling type feelings at 15 weeks. It started to get stronger by about 20 weeks but I wouldn't call them proper kicks until about 24 weeks.

Thanks so much for your responses! I haven't been worried about this but knowing that others took a whole yo feel movements is very reassuring. @dottyrobin I also thought today I might have felt something very low down so hopefully that could be the wee one.

I’m 39 weeks now still don’t get huge amounts of feeling and movement - but there is a little kind of pattern and strength to them now! My placenta is still anterior but it also moved high as I progressed too.

Fruityb · 26/08/2019 20:57

I had one and he was kicking the crap out of me at about 24 weeks noticeably. He didn’t stop after that - I miss that so much. Loved feeling him moving.

I loved being pregnant 🤰

A light flutter by 21 weeks, gradually getting stronger now by 24. I probably don't feel as much as most people with posterior placentas, but the they are definite kicks. Not "could that have been wind?" kind of sensations like at 21 weeks when i first felt "something".

Lisalou88 · 27/08/2019 07:50

I started feeling flutters at 21 weeks and proper kicks around 23 weeks. Now 33 weeks and I feel strong movement constantly x

Leleophants · 27/08/2019 08:51

27 weeks and then daily at 30, but always a bit of a worry as isn't 100% regular.

ELJ1502 · 27/08/2019 08:51

I started feeling flutters fairly early on and then lots of low down pressure at around 20 weeks; I was told this was because baby was breech and my anterior placenta. I'm 23 weeks now and just starting to feel what I believe is kicks but only when I lie on my side or sit in certain positions. My best friend told me it wasn't until 30 weeks she felt outside kicks with her anterior placenta.

Dec2019mumtobe · 27/08/2019 09:08

I have an anterior placenta too. Currently 24+5.

It can also depend on where the placenta is as to how much you can feel.

I felt some "is that baby or is that wind" type sensations at 17+ weeks.

By 21,22 weeks I could feel her move for sure and now there's no mistaking it.

Sometimes, it's really muffled and I think that's when she's sat behind the placenta.

I feel it most on one side and occasionally right at the bottom.

Hi @Thatsanicepear

I'm 28 weeks pregnant on Baby #1 today and also have an anterior placenta, so can understand the anxiety of waiting for movement.

I thought I felt flutters around 20 weeks but these weren't very strong and were inconsistent. I would only feel these laying down. I would say from 23 weeks activity increased and now at 28 weeks I feel movement very strongly - especially on my right side (that seems to be the baby's favourite side!) It's not always "kicks", and sometimes it's rolls or just movement I can't explain, but it's very obviously the baby. Still hard to say which part of the baby it is or what position the baby is in, but midwife has advised that's normal at this stage - baby still has plenty of growing to do and is changing position a lot. I am really starting to notice a pattern of activity now.

At around 24 weeks the midwife recommended that if I was worried, I drink a really cold drink or eat some chocolate (sugar) lay down in a quiet space and see if I could feel anything. I still do this now and again if I think I haven't felt movement for a couple of hours.

Hope this helps xx

I am 30 weeks now but was told I had an anterior placenta at 20 weeks I think, could have been 12 though. For ages I wasn't sure if I was feeling movement or it was wind!

But by 22-24 weeks I was feeling movement. I still don't feel a huge amount but do feel something everyday. I'd give it another couple of weeks and then reassess and speak to midwife if you're concerned.

Embracethechaos · 27/08/2019 11:22

I had an anterior placenta, first felt kicks to my sides not too long after the 20 week scan.

sodrained · 27/08/2019 12:53

Mines anterior and I've been feeling him since 15 weeks this is my third though but the kicks are very prominent it's weird because I had an anterior one with my DD and didn't feel anything at all. but this baby he doesn't stop all day and night Shock
