If you have been induced due to big baby!

How big was your baby on a scan compared to birth weight?

Just had a scan at 32+1 and baby is measuring 5 LB 4! He is on the top line so any bigger and he will be above it, I see my consultant at 35+5 so have another scan before then and she will decide if I need to be induced.

I was monitored from 36 weeks and scanned weekly as they thought baby was very large. At the last scan which was 39 + 6 they estimated baby to be 10lb 2oz. I was offered and induction and refused... I eventually gave birth at 40 + 6 with a baby weighing a very manageable 8lb 13oz. I'm so glad I didn't have the induction as my labour was lovely and natural and very straightforward me. The scans are inaccurate.

DS1 was predicted to be over 10lbs and the Consultant and MWs persuaded me to have an induction. A cascade of lies and intervention followed. He was born after three days induction and he weighed just 7lb and 2ozs. I had my other DC at home. They were all under 8lbs. I think the consensus was that as my husband and I were over 6' tall, we would have big babies. Not so.

I was measuring 4lb 4 at 29 weeks, we've been entered into a "big baby research trial" but I've had no further information other than a growth scan planned for 11th sept (I'll be 36 weeks) and consultant meeting on the 20th... midwife measured me on Friday and said baby is measuring at 95th centile

This is my first baby so I'm worried

I was induced 3wks ago with my 4th due to big baby.

My 3 previous babies had ranged between 8lb11-9lb10 and all arrived after 41wks (1&3 induced at 42wks). DH and I thought he would probably be 10lb+ and arrive at 42wks.

I had a routine growth scan at 37wks which predicted he was already 8lb15oz. Whilst I clearly had managed to give birth to large babies before the consultant offered induction at 40wks to avoid him being over 5kg.

We decided to go ahead, although we thought he probably wasn't going to be that big because there were other things - my age, the injections I am on and am reacting to, the fact I was likely to be induced anyway at 42weeks.

Anyway to answer your question, he was a mere 9lb 5oz at 40wks. Labour was also harder as my body wasn't ready but it was ok. Had he been left to 42wks hed probably have been 10lb5. So not as big as they thought. He is very long though.

I was induced due to a suspected big baby and no GD, he was born at 38.3 at 9lbs so not huge but really long, he has stayed on the top centile for height and weight since he was born (now 19 months)

@hormonesorDHbeingadick I had s private scan at 28 weeks iv had 2 so far with the NHS.

What worried me is they said DD would be around 7 Lb 2, she came out 8 LB 9 😂

Sonographer told me they needs 3 measurements to make a line of best fit to predict weight.

The growth scans have a 15% tolerance either way. So your baby could be 15% heavier or 15% lighter than predicted.

HJWT · 26/08/2019 08:02

@hormonesorDHbeingadick well I hope its 15% lighter at this rate! Haha x

15% tolerance either way. So an average sized baby of say 8lb 8oz (3.85kg) could be measured at a growth scan at weighing anywhere between 7lb 2oz and 9lb 7oz and the growth scan would be considered accurate. Sounds like a sweepstake would be more accurate!
