I don't have anything too spectacular here but am amazed by the "is there something you want to tell me/why haven't you told me?" type comments!!

Er, no, if I wanted to tell you, I would have done, what with me having the power of speech and all that!!!

Ah yes, we had a "and was this a planned event?" when we announced the first pregnancy. We had been together 5 years at that point!

Cazzybaby · 06/08/2007 16:48

I told one of my best friends 'I'm having a baby' and she said in response 'what are you actually pregnant at the moment?'.

Urmmmm yes....

MrsMar · 06/08/2007 17:03

Not quite the same thing, but I got a promotion at work around the same time I started telling everyone I was pregnant at work... everytime someone said congratulations I had to check what they were congratulating me for just in case they didn't know one but the other... it was all so political I was on eggshells for weeks!

PolarMummy · 06/08/2007 22:19

LOL Beansprout we got asked if it was a surprise or planned, so my Dh replied that it was definately planned, a lot of time and effort have gone into it

lemonaid · 06/08/2007 22:23

preggersagain when telling my family about DS we were meeting for lunch, so we told them and my sister pulled out a "Congratulations" card from her bag she'd had "a feeling" apparently...

aikigypsy · 07/08/2007 03:40

Yesterday I was talking with some older people I know vaguely from around town, mentioned my pregnancy (which is finally getting obvious) and this one woman said, "Oh? I didn't realize you were married."

Neither did I. I thought it was pretty funny.

mummypig · 07/08/2007 04:02

oh I love that one aikigypsy not being married myself either

i got asked what happened to you? ......... erm i ate the kids easter eggs what do u think

beansprout · 07/08/2007 09:01

It's also good when people I hardly know (a parent I see about once a fortnight in passing at the childminder's or colleagues in other departments) say, "oh why didn't you tell me?"

Um, because I don't know you and it's none of your business?!!

beansprout · 07/08/2007 09:02

Oh yes, and at the weekend, "I wasn't sure if you were pregnant or had just put on loads of weight".

Well, I'm not sure if you are getting older or just look sh*t today!!! Grrrr!!!

I am nice really, no honestly I am!

Caz10 · 07/08/2007 12:32

MrsMar that happened to me too! I am a teacher, so had parents etc saying "congratulations that's great news" and I just had to smile and say thanks, didn't know which event they were referring to!

elfsmum · 07/08/2007 12:47

with DS1 got asked "and what have you been up to "

a couple of weeks ago a work colleague rubbed my tummy and asked "is there something you want to tell me" ......apart from I'm fat, no

and no I'm not pregnant....still can't diet though

cupcake78 · 07/08/2007 15:16

Well I have had the exact opposite.

Left work two weeks ago to start my maternity leave:
"I didn't know you were pregnant when are you due" - Answer- I leave today I am 32+ weeks!!

"have you got another job, what are you leaving to do" - Answer- HAVE A BABY!!!!!

Cot delivery man:
"is it a present for someone".
Answer- No I am pregnant,
"oh you must be planning ahead"
Answer - I am due to 6 weeks

Mamas & Papas sales person:
"are you thinking of getting pregnant"
DH's Answer - I would but my wife has beaten me to it , he is so funny!!

Either way it bugs the hell of you.

Naetha · 07/08/2007 16:03

One of my rather shy work colleagues asked me at work if I was pregnant (I'm nearly 20 weeks and starting to show). I indignantly replied "What are you trying to say?" just to see the look on his face!

I peed myself laughing and to be fair he saw the funny side, but I think he's been scared off for life ever asking if someone is pregnant again!

bookwormtailmum · 07/08/2007 16:15

At 38+ weeks pg with my dd, I (literally!) bumped into an old work colleague in the supermarket and before she could stop herself she shouted 'OMG, what on earth have you been up to, you're huge' before she went bright red and muttered 'don't tell me'. When she knew me before, I was about the width of a lamppost so I guess it was a bit of shock suddenly seeing me almost ready to pop. She did ask me if I was married - she's also the mum of an old school-mate - but just looked resigned when I said that I wasn't . Bless.

sarahloumadam · 07/08/2007 17:26

Aikigypsy - I had the same thing "didn't even realise you were married". I am as it happens but still said "didn't realise you had to be" and then felt mean because he got all flustered but that soon wore off when he starting quizzing me about my childcare arrangements and advising me to stay at home for "at least two years" . I have now come to a more serene stage of my pregnancy and just think people are very silly but well-meaning - peace !

Rantmum · 07/08/2007 17:29

My MIL asked me whether she should have french cheeses on the menu at a family function she is organising in November. I am not pregnant, but this was her way of trying to find out if we were "trying" again. Sneaky, sneaky MIL .

Peacelovewar · 08/08/2007 18:24

One of DH's friends said, is that a baby in your stomach or are you just pleased to see me? Bloody american's

Tutter · 08/08/2007 18:26

not exactly answering the question, but most bizarre question i was asked was (when i was about 8 months pg) "how many days pregant are you?"

[bewildered]

Desiderata · 08/08/2007 18:27

I didn't have a very big bump when I was pg .. and tbh, I lost weight in my face, legs and arms.

Obviously all my friends, family and colleagues knew I was pg, but I was eight months gone before a relative stranger asked me if I was.
