Started to put all my bits and pieces together and wondering if any mums to be / new mums care to sense check and let me know I've missed anything (or have too much?!)

Worked off a checklist I was given at antenatal plus a few extras:

Mama Bag

  • 2 or 3 x mix of PJs / Nighties for comfort / practicality
  • dressing gown
  • flips flops (for showering)
  • slippers (for comfort)
  • 4 x pants (disposable / throwaway)
  • 2 x non wired bras
  • 1 pack of maternity pads
  • 2 x leggings / vest tops / tshirts
  • 1 cardi or hoodie
  • fan / facecloth / spray water
  • shower toiletries
  • hair brush / band / bobble

Baby bag:

  • 1 x pack of nappies ( half size 1, half size 2)
  • cotton wool (or do hospital give you this?)
  • 4 x vests (2 first size, 2 newborn)
  • 4 x sleepsuit (2 first size, 2 newborn)
  • 2 x cardigans (up to 1 month)
  • 2 cotton hats
  • 3 x muslins
  • 2 x blankets
  • going home outfit

Dads bag:

  • fresh shorts and tshirt
  • drinks and snacks for us both
  • chargers
  • cash

I dont yet know if I'll have a csection or vaginal birth so trying to prepare for all eventualities!

Are you breast feeding or bottle feeding? If doing bottle you may need to take your own stuff. Definitely some flapjacks or something snacky as you never know when you will be fed! We found a couple of straws to be useful if only have a cup available. My dh main job was holding a drink with straw anglef for me to drink, as positions made it difficult to drink!!

Not sure yet @Topbird29 - hoping to breastfeed but thinking I should maybe have a starter pack of ready to go formula as back up just incase - will speak to my midwife about it

Gaviscon the gas and air gave me terrible heartburn and it took them hours to bring me a tiny portion not useful when you have been used to swigging it from the bottle!! Second paracetamol as well.

SnuggyBuggy · 24/08/2019 20:03

If you want to breastfeed bring some lansinoh or equivalent. Seriously even if you forget everything else bring that.

NewMama2Be · 24/08/2019 22:06

Thanks @emma8t4 - didnt realise the gas and air could have that effect. Been having heartburn at night now for a few weeks but drinking gaviscon makes me feel sick so I'm on rennies only for now. Will pack some though, thanks for the tip!

What’s baby measuring like ? I wouldn’t bother with size 2 unless they ate measuring really big. My dd was tiny to we had to use micro baby size 0 on her but also found that I had to use them on ds for a little bit who was 6lb 7oz so although not huge not tiny like dd
