Is anyone else Rh D neg?

I've just had a letter from the blood transfusion lab advising me that I am Rh D neg and will need an anti-D injection at 28 weeks.

I'm 9 weeks pregnant with twins and also lost twins in January at 19 weeks gestation. I hadn't yet had an anti-D and wonder if this ocntibuted to losing the babies.

I'm scaed stiff to be honest and don't know what all this means so any advice would be appreciated.

Were you not given an anti D jab in January? You should have been? You shouldn't just be finding this out in your second pregnancy?

If you didn't get the anti d then you probably need to speak to someone about it, but hopefully it won't be a problem.

Try not to worry too much about it.

I am rh neg. It means your baby could be rh pos. Which can cause your body to have an adverse reaction to the pregnancy. It doesn’t affect first pregnancies as your body only develops the reaction in subsequent pregnancies. I had the injection in my last two pregnancies into my bum cheek. I also had an additional injection after an accident at work last time (something fell from a high shelf in a cupboard as opened the door and hit my belly fairly hard) My midwife told me anytime anything like that happened I had to get checked as it can cause antibodies to be released that can adversely affect baby. I’m no expert on this, but all my babies have been born healthy and well. It isn’t anything for you to worry too much about. Just take extra care of your bump. Congrats on baby!

@pastabest I'm pretty sure I was given the anti-D in January after the babies were delivered but so much of it is a blur as I was rushed to theatre etc I'm not 100% certain.

@LollyBmummy3 Thank you, that's a bit more reassuring. Glad your babies have all been fine. Do you have any idea why they wait until 28 weeks until giving mums-to-be the anti-D injection?

You will be fine, as long as you had the anti d after the miscarriage.

As far as being thesis negative don’t let it worry you, the chances of sensitisation happening are tiny, the risk is highest at birth but even then the risk is tiny, but it’s best to have it just in case.

I only have it after the birth I don’t have it during pregnancy but I would if I fell over or was in an accident or something.

I'm also Rhesus negative, my letter says I might need injection after baby is born if it's rhesus positive

Tweetingmagpie · 24/08/2019 17:03

They do a blood test while you’re pregnant to see if the baby is positive or not, so you will know if you need the anti d or not, it’s a relatively new thing, it makes it so much easier, my first four babies were negative like me but my next three were all positive like their dad.

Sorry squiff, I don’t know why it’s so late. 🍀

I am rhesus d neg and had an anti d jab at around 28 weeks, you can have your babya blood group tested but they only do it up to a certain stage - I was too far along so will not have to wait until baby is born to find out if our blood groups match.

Bubbletrouble43 · 24/08/2019 20:38

I'm rhesus negative and had anti d following the birth of dd1 and I think during my second pregnancy ( also twins!) with no ill effects. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I found the science of it a bit confusing tbh but all 3 dcs are fine.

BeerMyHold · 24/08/2019 21:04

O- here. I had the anti D with my first baby at 28 weeks.
In my second I had a few incidents of bleeding and had the anti D each time plus the normal 28 weeks.

I dont know why it's so late either.

Both mine are fine. First is O- and I cant remember what the 2nd is.

Honestly it's really common and easily dealt with. You have the injection when you need it and don't have to think much about it. I've been pregnant 3 times and had the injection each time and then not thought any more about it. It definitely doesn't cause miscarriage. X
