Rib pain under right breast

Riri123 · 23/08/2019 22:22

Hi just wondered if anyone else has suffered from rib pain under right breast. I am 23 weeks pregnant and have had rib pain for last two weeks on and off. I first thought it was my bra so I purchased larger one but pain continued!

Any help/advice much appreciated x

It's a nightmare. I'm 37 weeks now and have rib pain at the front and back most days. Baths and lying on my left side are the only way I can relieve it. I freeze ice packs, hot water bottles to try to help. Also freeze water bottles for being on the go - then you can drink them after. As for bras I have gone from 34 to 40 and it still feels like they are digging in! I think it is just the position of the pain being exactly where the bra strap is. Good luck xxxx

I had terrible rib pain in my first pregnancy. It was the baby/my womb pushing upwards and causing pain. As soon as my bump dropped it stopped altogether. This pregnancy (i'm 32w) i've carried low the whole time and haven't had any pain. Hopefully baby will drop soon and you'll be out of pain. I sympathise, it really is awful.

I had hypertension last pregnancy and they told me one of the signs of high BP is pain just underneath your breasts. Could just be normal pregnancy stuff but worth mentioning at your next appointment I think.

Hi @Riri123 - yep, same as @CucinaBreakfast - last week, baby was sat in a position that pushed upwards into my ribs. I was in agony for days! Baby finally moved position and the pain has gone, though it comes back every now and then (but not as intense as before). Hope it gets better for you :) xx

@Riri123 you donot have any itching do you?

Snowflake9 · 28/08/2019 22:43

Oh god I did!! Currently 40+2 and around 20 weeks it was hurrendous. Couldn't wear a bra at all. Couldn't lay on my right side.

Figured it was just my rib cage expanding. I don't have any remedies either I'm sorry!! But I completely sympathize with you.

I had hurrendous itching too. Felt like my skin was on fire. They tested my bloods weekly and luckily nothing bad. Just had to take antihistamines

CucinaBreakfast · 29/08/2019 01:45

What is the itching supposed to suggest? My chest between my boobs has been itching for weeks, should i be telling someone about that?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 29/08/2019 02:10

I had rib pain and itching. Turned out to be Obstretic Cholestasis, which is where the pregnancy causes liver damage.. The rib pain was actually my liver going wrong.

Sorry dont want to freak you out, but if it comes with itching it's not a symptom to ignore.

CucinaBreakfast · 29/08/2019 02:42

Eek thanks whowould, I'll get that checked out.

I had horrendous rib pain during my pregnancy. I was prescribed coedine which I really didn't want to take, after an awful day I took one and it made me feel so sick for days. My pain went literally the second after she was born the relief was amazing.

Riri123 · 01/09/2019 00:14

@dollytutu

I have general body itching at times which I just put down to dry skin or perhaps stretch marks.

I told the midwife yesterday about it and she said it's perhaps just everything expanding and compressing.

I wonder whether it's because I love sleeping on my right side..I know I should stick to left but I naturally turn whilst sleeping!

I bought these from Amazon. Very comfortable and helped with my rib pain.

Junlan Womens Nursing Bras Maternity Sleep Padded Wireless for Breastfeeding with Free Bras Extenders (36A 36B 36C 36D 36DD 36E 36F 38A 38B 38C 38D 38DD 38E 38F, 2 Pack White & 1 Pack Black) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075WVV87B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_P11ADbFDDRHSD?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Also if you leave a review, they send you another one free. They come with bra extenders too.

dollytutu · 01/09/2019 08:16

@Riri123 just watch for it as both these can be signs of oc/icp
Xx

Snowflake9 · 01/09/2019 09:04

I just want to say, I had extreme itching to the point where I felt like my skin was crawling and on fire. I called the midwife in tears, she said to call day unit. Called them, they said they weren't concerned unless it was hands or feet, call the GP.

Called GP, mentioned rib pain too. He was really good and did weekly blood tests to ensure that my liver was functioning correctly.

If you get fobbed off, do chase it up like I did.

Luckily my liver has been fine and it was something that could be solved by going braless, and antihistamines.

Riri123 · 01/09/2019 19:18

My right rib pain is awful, worse when baby is pushing their leg into it. It's been going on for months but is much worse now at 39 weeks.

Snowflake9 · 01/10/2019 22:53

Glad you like them! I live in mine now DS is here. Good luck x
