I'm sure I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to (along with everything else!!) however, I looked online and most other websites recommended it as a healthy option. Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,

Gillian.

I think if there's an issue it might just be that hummus is one of those things that is pre-prepared and can then sit around, perhaps not in ideal conditions, before you buy it so could harbour salmonella etc. I'd trust a sealed pack from a supermarket fridge, but maybe not so much from an open deli counter or a cafe on a hot day. Best of all, make your own - very easy and yum. Blend a can of chickpeas with a tablespoon or two of tahini (comes in jars like peanut butter), plus 2 cloves garlic, several tablespoons olive oil, juice of a lemon, seasoning and a bit of water if too stiff.

Is it to do with the increase in sesame allergy, do you think?

I have always scoffed houmous during my three pg's with no probs. In fact all my dc's love it too and it's been the best way of introducing veg to my very fussy ds. Yesterday he ate some green pepper and loved it because he dipped it in houmous. It's often the only way I can get him to eat veg without a huge fuss.

Please could anyone put my mind at rest that marscapone and ricotta are fine to eat while pg. I was pretty sure they were as they are not mould ripened cheeses, but a pg friend looked at me in horror when I said I was still eating them??

I think bluestocking is probably right, but this would only be sth to avoid if you have a family history of allergy to it, like peanuts I should think. I scarfed it during both pgs with no ill effects.

monthlymayhem I've been eating them too, seem to have been craving cheese since start of pg! They are on the link MrsBadger posted as being ok, and I think the calcium can only be good for you?

(ricotta esp on a pizza with spinach, YUM!)

Thanks Caz, have checked the link and that puts my mind at rest!

MrsB, I thought raw but smoked was not allowed? Smoked salmon for eg?

Thanks for all of the posts - I love hummus and have just had my first since getting pregnant (now 17 weeks..) as I was convinced I couldn't have it!!
