Hey, I’m hoping someone can give me advice.. I’m 10 weeks pregnant and ate a chicken and bacon salad the other day from asda for lunch at work. Then I decided to have the same again today but I decided to google it and everything is saying it’s unsafe because it’s not cooked or home made?!? Anyone got any advice on this? I thought because it was shop bought it was okay.. and only deli meats such as Parma ham etc had to be avoided? 😫😫

Were you on UK or US sites? UK NHS does do not prohibit eating of these pre prepared salads

You’ll be fine. And you can keep eating eat. But why did you decide to google it in the first place? If you’re ten weeks surely you’ve already read all the NHS guidance? In future, if you’re still unsure, check first then eat...

By unsafe all they mean is it might be fractionally more likely to give you food poisoning than something home made. Honestly there's no need to check ingredients when pregnant IMO, you'll just drive yourself crazy. But that might just be me.

I seem to be googling everything... even tinned soup the other day and found articles saying that was unsafe! I know all the NHS guildlines I’m just being over worried about it all!.. I can’t remember which sites they were from but some were saying not to eat cold chicken etc!

Just stick to the NHS website and ignore the rest.

If you’ve read and know the NHS guidelines that’s all you need. Stop googling, and ignore any site that’s not NHS - any unregulated idiot can post this kind of advice without evidence to back it up. American websites will have different advice because they have differing food standards and procedures around food as the UK. If you’re still worried or confused about what you can eat speak to your midwife.
