Hi,

I'm 28 weeks and been signed off work (care assistant) with PGP. I know it sounds daft, but I'm really sad about it. I wasn't ready to leave work yet and I'm really aware I have up to 14 weeks off now before my baby gets here. I've even been in tears about it!

I'm trying to cheer myself up, so what are some good points to being off this early, and what could I do that I couldn't do while I was still working? My current ideas stretch to me being able to wear nail varnish... I'm not doing very well!

Are you definitely off until baby comes?

Go visit friends or family. Decorate baby's room more thoroughly than you planned. Read more books. Learn knitting or crotchet and make clothes or toys for baby that will be really special. Nest! Give in to your napping urges. Take walks around your local area and see whole new things don't see from the car.

Best of luck, and try to keep your chin up. If that doesn't work, we're all here for you xx

As far as I know yes - I've annual leave booked in 4 weeks time until my maternity leave kicks in anyway, and from what the physio said I need to be off really. :/

I've been crafting! I suppose I can crack on with that now, and... make jam?

Thank you xxx

I was signed off from 15 weeks and to begin with it really got me down.

To do lists and calendars really helped me. I made sure I had something to do everyday, weather that be housework, swimming or meeting up with friends and family.

I'm 31 weeks now so till have a few weeks to go but really couldn't of got through it without a purpose for each day. It helped keep a sense or normality.

Another thing to remember is that although it can be extremely boring some days doing nothing and resting is best for you and baby. So as well as always having something planned put your feet up and relax ❤️

Can you cancel the annual leave? If you've got a sick note and aren't able to work then you shouldn't be having to use your annual leave, it should be covered by sick leave - better to save your annual leave and add it to the end of your mat leave if you can (unless it affects your mat pay?).

I can't do that - my annual leave has to be taken by the end of the year, and by taking annual leave I'll be on more money than on sick pay (I only get statuatory). X
