Re-occurring Sinus infection

Hi there ! 👋🏼
In need of some advice or even experiences of an awful sinus infection !!
This is my third one in 6 months; I’ve tried three courses of anti-biotics, nasal drops/ washes & sprays but nothing seems to get rid of it for good.
With the infection I have really bad pain in the pockets of my cheeks, head, teeth and jaw.
This has been going on for pretty much the whole six months and I feel like I want to rip my head off 😢!! Even steaming has stopped working.
My GP isn’t giving any more antibiotics as they’re not working & has prescribed drops again.
If anyone has got any advice I would appreciate it sooooo much xx

I really feel for you, I had this throughout my last pregnancy but luckily only had it once this time. If you're having pain in your cheeks and jaw I would go back to your GP (or a different one if possible) and ask for a swab and allergy test. You may need a different type of antibiotic or anti histamine.
It's extremely painful, so I really hope you find something that works x

I feel your pain, I usually get a sinus infection after every cold (and have been this was for a few years now) and I had the devil of all sinus infections at 10 weeks pregnant, I've never been so ill. I had to have antibiotics, antihistamines and cocodamol to treat it in the end and after reading up I decided to buy a cold air humidifier for my bedroom - it's honestly the best purchase I think I've ever made. I've had 3 colds since and at the first sign, I get the humidifier out and, touch wood, it's just stayed a cold and not developed further. I can blow all the crap out my nose in the morning and had no need for any other medicine. It might be coincidence but I honestly wouldn't be without it now - if you haven't tried it, I'd really recommend giving it a go.

Hugs for how miserable sinus infections are, especially whilst pregnant Flowers

Thank you for your advice !!
Did you have a swab and allergy test, if so were there any findings.
I’m willing to try anything at this point :( xx

Thanks for your message.
Did the antihistamines work at all, I’ve been advised by a few people to try them, it’s just that some of them make me drowsy & with being a single mum looking after my 5 year old I can’t be having that 😩.
The humidifier sounds like a god send, I’m going to look into it now !
Xxx

I have had awful sinus problems for years. The only thing that has stopped mine is antihistamine, been on them constantly for around 5 years now. Have tried a couple of times to stop and it just comes back.
It can take up to a month for symptoms to get better, but it has really worked for me.

KCMummy · 20/08/2019 21:19

Ahh you poor thing, @Em39maI can’t imagine suffering for that long.
Is there a particular antihistamine you take ? As I mentioned above some make me really drowsy, just looking for one that doesn’t xxx

I’m on cyclizine, doesn’t make me drowsy at all. Just by the cheap ones, branded are four times the price. I pay .79p for 28.
Loratidine is slightly stronger, I couldn’t take it as I had a reaction to it. But either I have been told are safe in pregnancy, I would ask your doctor but mine told me to to even think about stopping mine.

amehh · 21/08/2019 07:48

@KCMummy I took clarityn as I was abroad - cant remember what type of antihistamine that is though :)

Hope you get some relief soon!

LongtimeLurker29 · 21/08/2019 07:51

I suffer all the time with my sinuses and the only thing that helps is Neil med sinus wash. It doesn't stop it completely but it really helps when it feels like my head is going to explode with the pressure

KCMummy · 21/08/2019 10:13

@Em39ma ok great !
I tried an antihistamine last night and I feel like it release pressure 😮, dunno if it’s luck but I’m going to keep trying !!

I tried an antihistamine last night, if I don’t get long lasting joy with the one I’m using I’ll defo give the one you recommend a try !! X

Sterimar wash, cetirizine tablets, and a hydrocortisone spray like beconase. I also had my septum straightened which helped no end, because I have tiny wiggly sinuses that block up easily. Have you been referred to an ent specialist?

KCMummy · 27/08/2019 09:14

@pickingdaisies thanks !! I’ve asked to be referred to the ENT specialist but GP keeps saying it isn’t serious enough !? 😡

Try a different GP? I got the op done because my balance was being affected, but different GPs seem to react differently. Let them know how much this hurts. I changed gp recently because my old surgery is in meltdown. When I had a flare up of sinus problems I went in to see if I could have something to help. His eyes were practically glazing over until I mentioned I'd had a septoplasty, then he immediately prescribed me a new spray for short term use, it's called rhinolast. Unless you can afford to go private, it's really hard work to get anything lately.
