I've got thrush at 20 weeks, itching like crazy and can't see a doctor until tomorrow and pharmacy won't give me anything without prescription. Does yoghurt and honey work for anyone? Or any other suggestions please?

You can buy thrush treatments off the shelf in supermarkets

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 19/08/2019 18:25

Yep - supermarket. Just don't get the oral tablet. Cream/ pessary is fine.

Icecreamsoda99 · 19/08/2019 18:36

Oh fab I didn't know that!!

They are like over a tenner or something though. Not cheap. Oral tablet worked best for me but you’d be cheaper getting that on prescription if you can just get the cream just now. Plus the doc will know if the oral tablet is suitable for you. It works really well in my experience.

The oral tablet is not suitable during pregnancy

Preggosaurus9 · 19/08/2019 19:08

You can't have the oral tablet while pregnant!

Get the pessary. Pretend you're not pregnant or else they won't let you have it.

For prevention of recurrence afterward, take a probiotic which contains lactobacilli known to live in the lady garden. Lifeplan multidophilus works wonders for me.

Also avoid sugary foods and anything with yeast in.

I am prone to horrendous constant thrush in pregnancy and the above works to keep it mostly at bay. Cutting down on sweet things is the hardest part!

You're more prone to thrush in pregnancy because the pH of the vagina changes btw. Also constipation makes it more likely, which is common in pregnancy. So stay on top of that if you have it. Ask dr to prescribe movicol or similar stool softener that you can take regularly during pregnancy. Laxatives are not suitable as can't take them as a preventative/constant low dose.

Sorry for long post, hope it helps!
