Really suffering this morning with hayfever, and really just want to take a couple of piriton to take the edge off - can I?

Box says consult doctor before taking, but earliest I could see doc would be middle of the week!

morning jarm

pretty sure that's a big fat no! if you search the archives for info you'll find you can't take anything but some sort of nasal spray prescirbed by doctor.

it's the shits, it really is!

From Google

There are also some antihistamines that you can safely take; especially now that you are this far on in your pregnancy. Haymine or Piriton contain the same antihistamine, and would be safe for you to take in normal dosage. They may make you feel drowsy, however. It is not yet certain if the better non-sedating antihistamines are suitable for use in pregnancy

I don't think you should.

Eyedrops, vaseline up your nose, throat sweets?

Hi JARM. Doc prescribed me piriton when I was pregnant. It knocks me for six though so I have to weigh up whether the hayfever or the drug induced tiredness is worse!!
It's horrible though, and non hayfever sufferers are soooooo lucky.

My obstetrician said that Piriton was safe in pg, even when I needed o take it every day for a week or so. Unfortunately, Boots won't sell it to a pregnant woman as it's not actually licenced for pgcy unless it's on prescrpition. So you'll either need to lie wehn they ask whether it's for you, or ask someone else to buy it for you.

It's considered safe not because there have been studies into its safety in pgcy, but because it has been used for so many years with no apparent ill-effects.
