Hi everyone. So I went for a scan on wednesday to check the position of the succenturiate lobe I have..that's fine cervix is clear..sorry I'm 34+1 btw...and on the scan they told me babies estimated weight already is 5lb12!! Had to see a nurse for a blood monitor to check 4 times a day and if I have 3 readings on target on more I had to call. I had one on target and 2 above..which were my morning fasting ones. Called this morning and they have referred me to the dietician..although I'm eating all the right things according to the info they gave me. I'm just really worried about baby and it obviously piling on the pounds!! I really want to have a vaginal birth too not a c section. Can anyone give me advice..should I worry? Has anyone else had this so late in pregnancy?
I have another scan at 37 weeks to check baby again but have already been told they will induce me 39-40 weeks.
Please can someone give me some reassurance?
Xxx🤰

I have been monitoring blood throughout whole pregnancy, nothing to do with abdominal, its just to make sure the sugars in blood are maintained to the required level. I had a 32 week scan and they have said abdominal measurement is in line with 32 weeks, head circumference is 1 week ahead and femur length 3 weeks ahead. I have been told to express from 36 weeks too.
I have started drinking peppermint tea at night because of the heartburn but found it has bought my morning readings down too.

I was diagnosed with GD with our son a couple of years ago having told the midwife from the second trimester something wasn't right as I was huge and my weight gain seemed ridiculous literally over night even though I ate healthy and still exercised !
I was 37 weeks when I had my GD test and this confirmed GD to be the case and was set to be induced at 39 weeks but he came spontaneously at 38w5 , he was 10lbs even though I'd been scanned at 38w and he was '8lbs5' estimate lol and came vaginally, no complications for me , not even stitches or tears , he had shoulder dystocia but this can happen with any size baby and was ok ! X
Because of how late in the pregnancy I was diagnosed , I had a week worth of metformin before he came but they sort of just shrugged and said that they couldn't really do much other than monitor him daily which they did up until me having him x
He was monitored for a few days after I had him to keep an eye on his blood sugar levels which remained normal and he's had no complications since x

Don't panic , baby will be perfect and you can definitely still have vagina delivery x
I hope this is helpful x

I was diagnosed with GD after having the routine test. I was devastated at first and worried about the baby and having a big baby! Once I started monitoring my bloods I found that it was only my overnight fasting bloods that were over. Even with strict dieting I couldn’t get them to be under. I first started with metaformin but then had to go on to insulin in the evenings. At first I felt almost ashamed at having to go on insulin but it wasn’t my fault and it isn’t yours. I had a whole slew of other pregnancy related illnesses so at 37 weeks I begged to be induced early and I went in at 37+6 to be induced (turns out I was already 5cm gone and didn’t realise!). My baby boy was born at a small 6lb 1oz and his blood sugars were totally fine. My diabetes went away as well thankfully. As for the keytones I had them in every single urine test I did (I was never away from the hospital so I did a lot!) and every time they’d quiz me on whether I’d eaten or drank enough that day. I always had and then they never questioned it further. I think they keytones are more of an issue if other proteins/bloods are found in the urine with it. Xx

This info is so useful ladies thank you!! I'll have a trip to tesco to pick up some of these bits today..I've read oatcakes with peanut butter before bed is good too. And that's really useful about pairing food...and makes sense. My fasting reading was 5.1 this morning Smile but that was without a snack last night. I'll try a snack tonight..depending on my evening reading. Off out for sunday lunch today so dreading my afternoon reading xxx

Sunday lunch should be fine- pair your small portion of potatoes with plenty veg, hopefully it will be ok.
You should never go hungry, your body needs fuel. If you need medication to support that, then that is just a fact. Pregnancy is hard on body, sometimes you need help.
My growth scan indicated 8lb 13 at 36 weeks, dd born at 38 (induction) weighing 7lb 3 oz. I spent weeks in a state amid fear and paranoia, imagining all sorts of awful things.
Try to relax, do your best, accept that you may need help through no fault of your own.

I was diagnosed with GD at 27 weeks. I had my 28 weeks growth scan Tuesday just gone where baby was estimated to be 3lb 13oz already. He was 1lb 4oz at 22 weeks. I see my consultant on Tuesday and am fully expecting to be out on metformin if not insulin. My morning blood sugars are higher than they should be but during the day I seem to be able to manage them and get them under what they should be. I am expecting to be making an appearance around 36-37 weeks at the rate he is currently growing. I have my next growth scan booked for 32 weeks and I already have a scan booked for 35 weeks so will see what happens.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised interestingly I was told I could have a glass of milk in the day as a snack but not before bed but I can't remember why...

RedElephants · 18/08/2019 15:48

I was diagnosed if I remember correctly, at approx 35 weeks (18yrs ago next month)
I was at a consultants appointment, as I was diagnosed with Strep B in my 1st pregnancy, when she asked if I had any questions,
Well yes I said, so many people have mentioned how big my bump is!
So it was then it was found that all previous bloods had been lost, and had to have more taken..
I went back for the results a week later, where they said I had gestational diabetes, put me straight on to insulin, Ds arrived the following week, 4 weeks early, weighing 8'15.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 18/08/2019 17:16

@AuntieMaggie it hasn't seemed to be a problem for me. My morning sugars have all been fine and I only drink it when my after dinner bloods are within range. If they are high I wont.

Does anyone have any drink suggestions other than milk or water? I'm getting so bored with them. I dont drink tea or coffee.

AuntieMaggie · 18/08/2019 19:45

I can't remember why they said not to have it at bedtime - it was in the middle of the talk about snacks and I'd zoned out a bit with all the info!

I don't drink tea/coffee or fizzy drinks either but have been having the odd weak sugar free squash. What about sparkling water with lime and mint or something in it?

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 18/08/2019 22:26

That might be an idea. I was thinking of getting some fruit tea and then maybe chilling it in the fridge to make a fruit ice tea.

HanDawson · 19/08/2019 06:50

I'm so fed up with drinking water too @littlemissorganised. I'd thought about about put some lime or lemon in my water like they do in those infusion drink bottles? I dont drink tea or coffee either...just keep think this is so worth it though..I just cant wait to see the LO. Oh my sugars were fine after Sunday lunch and even my fasting one was ok yesterday....I was chuffed. 😁 I had an oatcake with PB on last night before bed so off to see how that has affected them this morning...really hoping they are ok as I'm starving if I cant have anything after my evening meal. I real think a little walk after each meal definitely helps..great advice! I'm going to keep that up. Appt with the MW today so will see how I'm measuring etc...though dont think much will have changed..I think this new graph they use that takes into account your height weight and ethnicity to work out where you are on the centile range causes alot more woman to worry...she said last week it has increased the amount of c sections being done massively as people are constantly being told there baby is too small or too big. The consultant did say it also may be the fact I'm just having a big baby...my sugars arent massively high when they have been over..highest was 7 after pasta and that was last week before I knew anything about what to and what not to have..you ladies have been fab at giving advice! Xxxx

I had a 35 weeks scan. DS was estimated at 8lb 3oz Shock everyone freaked out, blood sugars tested and induction booked. He was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 3oz. Scans have about a 25% mar gain for error. Try not to panic!

AuntieMaggie · 19/08/2019 13:26

The other thing I did have, but as a snack rather than a drink, was a homemade spinach, cucumber and apple smoothie/juice... Ideally I would've added mint or lime juice but didn't have any and o figured there was so little carb/sugar in it that it should be ok. I had some nuts with it to balance it out a bit.

coffeeandgin26 · 19/08/2019 13:29

I was diagnosed at 32 weeks, and controlled by diet. At 32 weeks on my growth scan she was estimated to be 5lbs. She was born yesterday, at 36+6 completely naturally and only weighed 6lbs 2oz.

HanDawson · 20/08/2019 16:01

Just thought I'd update you..I saw the MW yesterday and I'm now measuring 37 weeks..35 on thursday..it is freaking me out!! I keep thinking this baby is going to come out like a Michelin man! I will love the LO no matter what but I just think my god I'm 2 weeks bigger than I should be!! Oh and my pulse for the past 3 appts is high but it's never really been looked at just my BP which was fine yesterday. My pulse is usually 90-98...how high is everyone else's? MW said I may just have a naturally high pulse ...even checking it in bed first thing this morning it was 92. And tbh im not massively stressed about things and getting plenty if rest. Hmm? Xxx

I can completely relate to the panic feeling.
Please remember- they don’t KNOW, they THINK that you are measuring ahead/ he’s a little bigger etc.
He’s your precious boy, and you are doing an amazing job at giving him best chance of being born without needing high sugars.
Hang in there, not long to go.

Noroof · 20/08/2019 19:42

If its any consultation I measured 40cm at 30 weeks and dd was 8lbz 2 when I delivered at 40 +3. Sometimes there's just a lot of fluid.
