Fibroids

Hi -

does anyone know if fibroids can affect a pregnancy? My doctors told me I had fibroids, I have no idea how many, how big, where they are, and I'm 5+4 weeks pregnant and full of worries, but no-one has talked to me.

It took me 16 months to conceive, I've never been pregnant before, I have no morning sickness, just a bit of tiredness and slightly sore boobs, and to top it off I just took a clearable weeks indicator test like an idiot and it still said 2-3 weeks :'(

I don't know how I'm going to survive until my first appointment with the midwives (I registered a week ago and still haven't heard from them), first scan etc.

Anxiety is real and I wish there was a bit more support available, I feel like these damn fibroids have made me extra worried and just wish someone had explained them to me rather than simply slap a label on me and left me alone to worry about it :'(

I know you can't control if you miscarry but it doesn't make the fear any less.

Thanks in advance

Generally fibroids have minimal impact, but it completely depends on location and size.

I have fibroids discovered during my first pregnancy. I’ve just had my second baby and the fibroids were monitored throughout both but had no impact on the baby’s development, the pregnancies or the births. No one was hugely concerned about them during the pregnancy. Further treatment was not mentioned until I asked after the second pregnancy at which point they have referred me to gynaecology but again the levels of concern are low.

Don’t stress yourself, fibroids will not cause you any issues. Stress on the other hand might.

I have multiple fibroids @MOGMOGMOG85. Our ttc journeys are similar. I concieved after 16 cycles. That pregnancy unfortunately ended in missed miscarriage in April - nothing to do with the fibroids though.

I will say stop testing. In my first pregnancy my tests were progressing as they should but it was actually false reassurance.

I'm now 5+1 with my second pregnancy. I saw the GP last week who reassured me again about the fibroids. He did think I'd be under obstetrics as well as midwife so they could monitor them.

I'm having an early scan next week to check all is well. Then I'll book in with the midwife.

It is so hard in these early days. I'm literally taking it day by day and today, we're both pregnant 😊 xx

Hi everyone - thanks so much for your replies.

@VenusStarr oh wow congratulations! I'm so so sorry about your MMC previously :'( but thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me and explain your experience.

You're only a few days behind me! I'm feeling much more positive today as it happens. I've only known for 10 days and the first 6 were hard, then I've been going up and down. I think I've finally accepted that I just have to chill and wait, it's sooooooo hard isn't it?

I'll cross all my fingers for you this time, as far as I know any early miscarriage is just likely to be a genetic default which is nothing to do with the mother... how wonderful if we are both successful this time, and statistically the odds are with us (particularly you as I believe more than one miscarriage is even more unusual).

Hope that comes across as reassuring rather than scary - good luck! xxxx
