Low protein in placenta

I have just received a letter from GP with results from Down's syndrome screening (low result).
However, the letter also stated that one of the protein levels in my placenta was low and in accordance with this extra growth scans have been arranged for later in pregnancy.
I will obviously try to contact midwife and discuss and my next scan. However, I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this and what it might mean?
TIA

Hi OP, which protein was this? Xx

The letter didn't say - just one of the proteins in the placenta was low which may lead to smaller birth weight!

I think this is low Papp-a - I have this and was picked up at the same stage. My consultant put me on aspirin and growth scans every 4 weeks.

Hi I have low Pppa -a and am now 27 weeks , so far it's been nothing to worry about. I think it's a less the 2% chance of having problems.

I had a low papp a with DS1 i was given 75mg aspirin to take daily and I was sent for multiple growth scans and by 34 weeks his growth had started to slow, I was sent for weekly Doppler scans of my placenta and was induced at 37 weeks. He was born healthy and well weighing 5lb6.

I now have another low Papp a but this time was put on 150mg aspirin daily to try and help baby's growth as 75mg didn't work for DS1. He was slightly small at his 20 week scan and I am currently waiting my first growth scan. I am being closely monitored however have being told to expect my section to be around 37 weeks again (section due to other issue)

I have also known women to have a low Papp a and give birth naturally without being induced and have very happy and healthy babies!

Xxx

Thanks all! Midwife didn't seem overly concerned which was reassuring. My first baby was 9lb 14 1/2 so visit already carry big babies

I have my 28 week growth scan tomorrow. Midwife said all low Papp people have to take 150 of aspirin now I think that's quiet normal now. X

I had a 28 week consultant appointment and scan today because of the same thing. For me it just means getting checked a bit more often but so far (touch wood) everything seems fine. At my 20 week scan they scanned my arteries to check blood flow to the placenta and I'm on 75mg aspirin per day too. I see it as nice getting to see the baby more Smile

If it's any consolation , I was at one hospital in Hampshire and received the same letter for low papp a....we changed hospital midway through care ( different reason) and the additional growth scams were mentioned and the new hospital didn't even test for Papp a and they have the best doctors and neo natal hospital in the south east and they had no unduly concerns.... I wasn't prescribed aspirin though at the first hospital.... baby is 3 weeks old so all fairly recent.
